Got my degree marks today

Still theres no need to put someone else down because of their university, a lot of people would give their right arm to be in the same position and no matter where its still a great achievement.

Exactly, this is exactly the reason I usually stay out of these threads.

It's gotten to the point where I actually want to punch some people in the face when I hear them spout their elitist crap now; they think they're so wonderful but the reality is that they're narrow-minded, short-sighted idiots who really should know better but are more comfortable living up their own backside. :/

The ironic thing is most of those people are were they are because mummy and daddy could pay for it.

Some of the brightest and most intelligent people I have met have got to where they are by being naturally gifted are down to the ground.

Coincidence, I think not.

Not really much more I can comment except that a bad student will always blame his school. Many people who go to good universities did not go to private school.

I agree people who are bright and do well at school will do well at most schools and get to go to a good university. However now with top up fees and such I was under the impression that top universities could charge more?

Its just seriously rude to ridicule someone's degree or University choice based on the fact that you go to a "top" University. Some people who aren't as fortunate may have to work long hours at a job whilst at University to fund their way through. However if you get it all payed for you can concentrate 100% on your studies.

That is one of the key reasons I said "mummy and daddy" paying for it as something like that will make a massive difference.

Not as far as I am aware, and if so it would have been very recent.

But only after the degree, surely?

Depends really, there could be many factors.

-Having to work through college to pay rent at home or other bills
-Being from a poorer background the thought of getting into 10k of debt is a little scary
-Also funding university whilst there will be more difficult than if it is paid for, you may have to work one or two jobs with long unsociable hours
-Being from a poorer background might mean you have come from a poorly educated background, therefore making it a game of catch up. I am not saying this is true for everyone but I do think it can be a factor.

Indeed, those are all factors, but I know a few who have made it through a top ten university on their student loan. Much more difficult certainly, but it is possible.

Yes they are the people who I mentioned before who deserve it, it seems the people that get given things on a plate then turn into some of the delightful characters you can see in this thread.

OP well done on completing your degree, good luck finding a job. :)

I'm a son of a miner, was the first to go to University, kept down a term time and summer time to go to Imperial - certainly didn't get anything given to me on a plate.

So where do you get of spouting your elitist university crap?

It a technical job you arse! - you are completely clueless, contract worker/freelance CURRENTLY working for ftse 100 company!

Can I ask how old you are? It seems very impressive to contract your skills to a multi-million pound company all on your own unless you have 10+ years of experience in the industry? And if you are of that age where you are in the position to contract your services to such a high level, the way you are coming across in this thread doesn't reflect that.
