**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Anyone who holds the crown for the best player in the world is irraplaceable :)

He's irreplacable as in, there's only one Ronaldo! :)

But others will come along. I have faith in SAF to replace him with someone fully capable of scoring plenty of goals.

The same happened when the Yorke/Cole partnership was broken, when Cantona left. When Schmeichel left (although it's debatable if VDS is as good as the Great Dane was).

My point is, onwards and upwards. Is Ronaldo irreplacable? In terms of being him, yes. In terms of what he brings to the team, no. :)

Liverpool placed a £35 million valuation on Xabi Alonso last night after the Spain midfield player said his goodbyes to some members of the club's staff. However, Real Madrid, with whom the player has been linked, have not yet made an official offer.

Alonso's relationship with Rafael Benítez has been troubled since the Liverpool manager began his pursuit of Gareth Barry last year. Although Benítez wants to keep the 27-year-old, there is a growing acceptance at Anfield that the player is likely to move to Real.

Benítez has justified paying up to £18.5 million to Portsmouth for Glen Johnson, who has joined on a four-year contract, because the right back was English. The manager has offered a new contract to Álvaro Arbeloa, who has one year left on his deal, but is also wanted by Real.

“We knew the market was going to be difficult this summer and some of it has been crazy,” Benítez said. “We could buy one more player without selling anyone.”

Now for Barca to up their interest in Mascherano :D

I would've sold him last season even though he's usually very good when he does play.

Yep. We really need to cut our losses with him. It's a shame because he's been playing really well when he has been fit.

Saying that, there's nothing confirmed about the injury, hopefully it's just Dossena's agent trying to hurry a deal up.

Kaka ?
Messi ?
:p

No one player is irreplaceable, sorry, evolution of football.

Jeez, why is it so hard to understand. Yes maybe one day a little kiddie will be born in a shanty town in Brazil and become the next Pele but in this DAY, Ronaldo is the best player in the world, so there isn't one player who could replace him.

Don't make me laugh with Kaka as a replacement! Messi is the next best thing, but that's it. Maybe Kaka and Messi can replace him.

Messi would cost upwards of £100mil, and is out of Utd's price bracket, and may or may not be as good. Kaka ISN'T as good, frankly if you watched any of the confederations cup Kaka has been completely aweful, his passing, shooting and running with the ball has been a joke. Messi/Ronaldo are in a different class to kaka on current form. But Messi is surrounded by Eto'o, Henry, Iniesta, Xavi, Utd might have a better defense than Barca but Barca's attack is completely unmatched by any other team in the world, therefore Messi has honestly, a better team to work his magic with, which is what makes me think Ronaldo IS the better player, but with O'shea backing him up, with Fletcher, Park, Nani, Giggs around him he's doing more with less basically.

He is completely and utterly irreplacable, the one possible equal in world football in Messi is NOT available.

As for Arsenal news, impossible to know but frankly the biggest problem we have in lack of DM's could be the hardest to address, as there really isn't many people around that are "that" good in that specific role, with our very weak wings(defensively no pace with our wingers to get back except Theo, whose just horrible defensively anyway) we need an immense DM to compensate, given 100mil I honestly wouldn't know who to go for whose available, thats Arsenals big problem right now.

I think Visionary was implying that there is somebody better. And there is, Messi. He's been the best player in the world since the start of the season just gone.

Messi better than Ronaldo?
Hmm.
Well, I am not Ronaldos biggest fan and in many ways am quite happy to see the back of him.
But really..
Most people who consider Messi better:
A:Hate Ronaldo as a person
B: Dislike MU
C:Revere Messi largely because he's a a Barca player ( )
D:Probably have seen very few actual matches with Messi
But when you look at their individual strengths, I see them as follows:
Strength: Ronaldo
Speed: Ronaldo
Dribbling: Messi
Creativity: Tie
Set pieces: Ronaldo
Aerial ability: Ronaldo
Two footedness: Ronaldo

Of course, this is just my opinion and many will disagree.
But what is clear is that Ronaldo has all the trophies, has all the awards, both with his team and individually.
He also has a better Goals-Games ratio I ithink ( ? )
So he has earned his status as worlds number 1 and I am sure any doubt of this will soon disappear when he destroys spanish defenses and plays in a league that the rest of Europe actually respects.

I know what he is saying, I'm agreeing with him, how come everyone has changed their tune over the fleet footed former united winger?

I don't see many even arguing the case? I have never even commented on the matter before even when Ronaldo was at Man U.

I can't say anybody has changed their tune over the Portuguese ladyboy. Some people have said he's the best player in the world all along, they just happen to be wrong as Messi is better.

Regarding all the talk about him being irreplaceable; he is, in terms of there's no direct replacement for him other than Messi who you won't sign. Im sure with £80m you could but 2 or 3 players that could replace him, whether that happens is another matter though.

To counter the "selfish" claim, Lampards highest ever season assists was this year, with 19, Ronaldo's highest is 20, Fabregas, probably the best assist maker in the world to date, has 24, SCholes, laughably, has a assist high in a season with 56 starts, of 4 assists :p

IIRC Henry had 23 assists in the league alone a few years back.

edit: As for Ronaldo, he's probably the best in the world for me (haven't seen enough of Messi to say he's definitely the best). Plenty of others agree, considering the fact that he is officially the best player in the world and also the most expensive.

Quick
Good dribbler, can beat a man
Great shot
Good in the air
Two-footed
Good at setpieces
Decent passer
Decent crosser
Creative
Better workrate than people give him credit for

The only things you could say he maybe lacks are temparement on occasion, tackling (not essential if he's playing up the pitch) and the ability to crawl out from Ashley Cole's pocket (and normally he gets round that by running over to the other side of the pitch).

Looks like Adebayor may well be on his way to AC Milan...sky sports reporting that AC Milan have approached him etc...hopefully get some decent money for him so we can buy someone better than him...

Totally agree with you there mate. I think he is a fantastic player in every element of his game and to be honest Man Utd may struggle without him next season unless they find a very good replacement because there isn't better out there.
