Firmware 2.8 out now for PS3

Apparently the wireless controllers (ie DS3) now are controller 1 by default when you have USB accessories (like GH guitars) plugged in. Was pretty annoying before when you either had to remove your USB accessories, or change the controller config each and every time you play so that the controller is number one.

That's actually a fantastic change. Finally i can just leave my SE fightstick plugged in permanently!

Thanks, I did try google but the wiki link i got said
and i was not sure which one applied.

The reason I asked is that I can stream from my pc without any additional software. so was curious to know what the advantage of this would be?

Who are you doing that then?

I bet you're using additional software one way or another. ;)

Windows Media Player is a built in component of Windows so you don't need additional software to stream content. :p

Pfft.

XBMC just lets you browse to the file you want to play back on a network share. PS3 needs some sort of streaming application running on the host device which is just daft when the files you are streaming are (mostly) supported in their native file formats.

I'm pretty sure you have to install it the first time you click on the icon for it, don't you?

Either way I don't have it installed.

Just because it's included with windows doesn't mean it's built in. ;)

You have to configure it, not install it. You also have to configure shared folders so i'd say they're about the same level of 'built in' as each other :p

Horses for courses. :)

I run mine on my server, so I like the lightweightedness of PMS, and I only ever stream to PS3s.

I found Tversity very sluggish when my collection built up in size. :)

Yeah it can be, trick is to put everything into alphabetical top level folders e.g. Have 27 folders a-z and # and then subfolders in those with the relevant media.

But it's just another reason why PS3 should support native smb sharing via firmware.

I'd consider it as 'built in' as windows file sharing considering both features are pre-installed and both require configuring before use - and equally both can be uninstalled. ;)

Either way it seems a bit pointless, all you would be doing is exchanging a server for a server. DLNA is used as it's a standard protocol for sharing media.

The update actually has somthing FANTASTIC in it. The PS3 controller will now always default to controller 1. Those who have guitar hero, Buzz, etc will know why this is useful.
