**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Brings a smile to my face :D

Looking forward to seeing Arsenal finish 4/5/6 09/10 :)

Looking forward to seeing Chelsea yet again finish 2nd or 3rd and still not win the CL:).

As for Man City??..sure they can do a Chelski but seriously they need to get themselves a decent manager...i dont rate Hughes all that much tbqh. Get a Mourinho, Wenger or a Fergie type of manager in there then they will start to seriously challenge for the Prem title.

The reason that RVP doesnt play every game is that he is prone to injuries. Wenger is trying to help him recover. Better to drop him than get him injured for three months.

If you want to compare strikers with barca, I dont think any ManU strikers would be in the starting lineup for barca. Does that make them squad players?

Either you quoted wrong, or you're being stupid.

I didn't compare them to any specific team. However I don't believe they are strikers that would play the majority of a season for any club that is pushing for more than 1 title.
Just like any other striker, they would be rotated.

The reason the likes of Henry etc get all the games is because La Liga is a less rough and tumble league, so they don't pick up as many knocks etc.

That could just be Laporta taking **** again, why would anyone want to make Eto'o the highest paid player in the world?

Barca

08/09 36 games, 30 goals, 4 assists,
07/08 18 games, 16 goals, 3 assists,
06/07 17 games, 11 goals, 8 assists,
05/06 35 games, 26 goals, 5 assists,
04/05 37 games, 24 goals

Mallorca
03/04 31 games, 17 goals
02/03 29 games, 14 goals

he's not had a season, since 02/03 where he's scored at a rate of less than 1 in 2 goals, I don't think theres another striker in the world who can boast that tbh. The only reason I think that he had fewer games in 2 of his Barca years were Ronaldinho hated him and the manager prefered him over Eto'o, even then, when dropped and not playing as regularly he had a ridiculous goals to games ratio, never stopped being professional and providing the goods.

He is quite simply one of the very best strikers in the world, and has been for 6-7 seasons. Only a club giving into Ronaldinho's huge ego has prevented him being considered the worlds best striker due to two years he didn't play that much.

Henry played 35 games both his years at Barca, with 27/25 in the league.

In the prem he's played 37 games in the league alone twice, 31, 30, and 16 in his first injured year, his heaviest year he played 52 games alone for Arsenal with 6 more for France. He's played roughly 20 games LESS a year in La Liga.

That's a great record, I still wouldn't want to pay him more than what Ronaldo is getting for instance and I don't believe the Citeh owners are stupid enough to do that either.

Hi there,

But if they only pay the "standard market rate" won't he just go to one of the top 4, stay with Barca, or go to Real Madrid? Do they not have to pay a premium to entice him into go to a team like Manchester City?

Yo,

Of course they'd need to offer a great package, I just don't believe they're offering the best package going.

to be fair, strikers have often if not always been the highest paid players in the sport, he could very possibly be the best striker in the world, and getting a bit more than the best midfielder in the world isn't exactly mental.

Frankly, remember, they need a big striker, if Eto'o turns Vassell's 2 goals, into 35 goals, that could be the difference between 5th, and winning the title, and the next year winning the title and the champs league, which could net them 150mil in tv money, advertising, winnings and set them up for a 100million squid team sponsorship deal. Theres a reason big players get big money, because it can cause huge money coming into the team.

Drunken! :D

Bendtner is a striker ? he has been playing up front ?
Bendtner isn't good enough, he's had the starts and opportunities, and he's not taken them.
He's not scoring, and he's not scoring the many many many chances that Arsenal have put on a plate for him. Bendtner is the big target man, Tevez is a little nippy forward. You pay different money for different players.

Would Eduardo be starting in the Barcalona first time ? Manchester United ? Liverpool ? Real Madrid ? Inter Milan ? ... He's not even first choice at Arsenal.

As for them being top scorers for their country, thats fine, being the best in you're country, doesn't automatically make you a world class player, Deon Burton is a first choice starter for Jamaica but that doesn't mean he's as good as other international strikers.

Bendtner hasn't got the presence, I don't think Abe does either.
Bendtner had 6 starts in a row and didn't score a goal, as has being pointed out, Rooney played wide left, up front and at times anywhere across the front, yet he's pulled in a fair goal tally.

I think you need more of a poacher, Rossi kind of player. "a fox in the box" that kind of player would net a lot of goals.

Rooney got 12 goals, Bendtner, with FAR less pitch time, got 9........ hmmm.

As for Eduardo, he's largely not starting at Arsenal because Wengers a big turd, theres also the little fact that someone smashed his leg into two separate pieces, the few games he's played since being back, he's scored some of the best goals of the season. Its not his fault Wenger constantly plays our worst striker and refuses to fire the most incompetant medical staff in the known world. If he was at Barca, he'd get rotation games, if Eto'o left, yes he'd be starting. He'd easily start at Utd, and Liverpool and without question Real Madrid.

Maybe you want to watch him play before judging him, I don't know anyone whose SEEN HIM PLAY who doesn't think he's one of the best finishers in the game.

But then again, you're saying Bendtner is crap despite almost scoring as many as Rooney, you call him a target man, which he's not, and you say Tevez is a nippy quick forwards and you pay more for that(I guess indicating you expect more goals from Tevez) despite the fact Tevez got 5, and Bendtner got 9, yes, almost twice the amount of goals.

Just to point out, he's a withdrawn striker, for his country, and in things like the worthless cup he is played as the support striker creating goals, which is his best position, as I pointed out he got 9 assists playing that role for his international team. For Arsenal he's been played mostly alongside Ade, who offers very little interplay with any other striker, or lone striker(its not his role) left wing, right wing, central attacking mid.

The "6 game run" was at the point where the club was dying, the one good game(lucky) against Utd but lost to Stock, Villa and City, this was, if you know, the time where the ENTIRE TEAM was playing like absolute crap, we were a joke, Gallas had his public outburst and Wenger threw him out of the team. Blaming him not scoring on our worst 2 weeks of the season is a bit of a joke. I didn't call Rooney crap because the whole team was pathetic in the champs league final, because that would be equally as stupid.

Drunken, I do love the moaning about Wenger, you know, because he's such a terrible manager, and has absolutely no idea what he's doing.

Huntelaar runs him very close, he's scored more than 1 in 2 in 5.5 of the 6 seasons since 02/03; the last half a season he didn't manage it probably in part due to moving mid-season and only 7 of his 20 appearances did he play 90mins at Madrid. Overall he has 143 goals in 193 apps which is a very good ratio.

That said, he didn't manage it and Eto'o's record is obviously more impressive anyway as La Liga has a golden boot weighting of 2 compared to 1.5 for Eredivisie.

I'm sorry, but Rooney scored more goals then Bendtner while playing out of position, proof that players aren't automatically awful if played out of position.

"big turd" describing arguably Arsenal's best manager, who has also shaped them to play really beautiful football, that they have become respected for the world over.

I think there are better, yes better, strikers then Eduardo, thats not to say he's a bad player. He didn't start as many games because Wenger felt that he shouldn't be playing him. He is after all fairly good at this being a manager thing.

I've seen him play, I also watch a lot of other world football, so Eduardo being one of the best finishers in the world ? not so sure, there are a lot of very good strikers out there. Maybe you should watch more football :p

Yes, I'm saying Bendtner is awful, it's not always about time spent on the pitch being a striker, it's about taking chances, I've seen Arsenal quite a bit over the last season and I'd say Bendtner would have being top scorer had he scored half of the chances Arsenal have created for him.

Bendtner has being given more then enough chances in my opinion, and doesn't look like the striker Arsenal need to have. They could do better.
