Hi,
Ive been an ocuk customer for ages and long time lurker of the boards, but ive finaly joined as i need help.

Basicly i had a xfx 4850 xXx from OCUK and i had a problem, when it hit the mid 60C's it would crash out on me.
So they sent me a replacement.
Ive just put it in and im not getting the same problems but its acting odd.
Durring crysis war head, in rendered cut scenes im getting horizontal chopping across the screen, like if you took a screenshot, cut a horizontal line and moved the piece about 2mm to one side, and its doing this constantly durring them, and when there are flashes the strobe of the gun shots seam to go alternate top and bottom of the middle of the screen.
I ran furmark and on the stability i got to 69C and then the screen when black and i had to manual restart.
Now should it crash at all durring furmark stability or should you be able to run it untill the cows come home and close it when you wish, ran for about 3-4mins.
It does a whole bentchmarking test fine though.
It hasn't crashed durring games but ive noticed normal crysis wont start up, it gets an error but the box flashes up and goes too quick to read

Any help?
Any more tests i should do or have i been sent another duff card?!?!

Also, should i get a refund for the postage i pay to send back faulty goods?
Because if not im going to end up paying the same amount as a new card if it keeps going like this!

Have a read through this thread - link - It's dedicated to the XFX 4850 xxx problems. There's another link within the thread that may help you too which i started when i was having problems.

Just work your way through the thread and try out the suggestions that are relevent to you or you haven't yet tried.

But, if it's failing Furmark consistently, and it doesn't appear to be heat related, then it sounds like the same problem - as reffered to in the above thread link.

Good luck with it.

Additional: This what i posted in reply to others with similar problems:

Do you occasionally get a screen displaying vertical lines/banding of 2 differing shades of the same colour when it crashes/freezes it's a known problem with some of these cards (xxx edition) - read this thread - link <--- the other link i mentioned in the above post.

Download furmark and run it a few times - if it replicates the same crash screen you probably have the same problem that i and others had with the XXX edition.

EDIT: Sorry meant to edit the above - and welcome to the forums.

Im confused. By reading the posts im getting that its only crysis and furmark it dies with?

So basicly the tests are run furmark and see if it crashes every time?
And play crysis for a while?
The origionaly one i sent back i got the vertical lines, ive only had black screen crashes in furmark with this.
But like i said, crysis wont run now, but warhead will
Should i uninstall crysis and re install it, if it works, play it untill crash?

Im getting about 64C on warhead, but im only on the 1st mission, but it crashed at 69c on furmark, so maybe i should play crysis for an hour and see what happens. Its idle at 35-40C

Also, when you sent yours back did they send you another xXx or refund you? Think they will refund me this time if its another broken one?

If it's the same problem it's not heat related - not via the GPU anyway - and your temps are fine.

I could run Crysis for upto 30 minutes before it crashed - sometimes a black screen but usually the banding i described. So yes, i would try Crysis and see what it gives up...

Furmark was the definitive test - and if it's crashing each and every time on your present card it would seem that you may have the same problem all be it in a slightly different guise.

Do all the basics -uninstall card - install latest drivers etc - it it keeps giving out the same results drop OCs a web note outlining your problem and see what they suggest.

Also, when you sent yours back did they send you another xXx or refund you? Think they will refund me this time if its another broken one?

I asked for a refund as i thought they may have a dodgy batch and got the ASUS Glaciator in its place (i was within the 28 day return policy) - i've been bitten by xfx before returning faulty card after faulty card. They're a great gfx company with a healthy returns policy - their batchs just don't seem to agree with me.

Thnaks :) i will furmark its pants off tomorow over lunch.
Will post back with details.
If it constantly crashes durring furmark but i dont get a crash in crysis do you think they will be understanding and replace/refund/exchange?
As its still a problem with the card.

That sentence actually made me choke on my drink.

I would drop then a web note outlining your problems and highlighting the Furmark results - if it was to consistently crash running Furmark. Ask them directly if this is enough to warrant an exchange/refund (depending on time scale) - It should be when added to your other stability issues.

If it turns out it crashes in Crysis too and Furmark it's almost a guaranteed replacement/refund. But make sure you drop them a web note as they may have a few suggestions - but i suspect they'll just ask for the card back as it's a known problem with some of the 4850 xxx editions.

While Plec is pointing you in the right direction regarding Furmark Death Syndrome [I have dibs on that name by the way ;) ] the above quote sounds like a simple vSync issue. I hope I'm not insulting your intelligence by suggesting you double check both Crysis/warhead and the Catalyst vSync options to see if they are conflicting in some way?

Not at all StevenRaith, how do i check this?
Btw i did 3 furmark tests today, heres the results;
1st test, ran 1min 40 secs, reached 73c and crashed to a dark red screen with lighter vertical pinstripes.
2nd test, ran 1min, reached 69c and crashed to a black/darkgrey screen with grey vertial pinstripes.
3rd test, ran 1min 30secs, reached 70c and crashed to a plain black screen.

Gona uninstall crysis and re install and try it out.

EDIT: i just had catalyst up and durring the preview screens (when your setting it up and it pans around a chaple or sumet) it has the same line across/delay at the center as it does durring games :-s

Should i get a refund on the postage it costs to send it back?
Just that if i have to send back again then im loosing even more money. :(

If you're within your 28 days - yes you can get your p&p paid - you just have to request it and enclose a copy of your postage receipt. This means you have to seal your package up in the post office which is a bit of a pain in the bum.

Basically, they won't refund it automatically - it has to be requested and proof of costs supplied.

Additional: Obviously, this doesn't apply if the card is found not to be at fault by OCs - then you also have to cover p&p for it to be ruturned back to you to plus testing costs

But, it is looking like your card is borked - so hopefully it will be a straight forward refund/swap. As i mentioned drop them a web note explaining your problems and see if they have any suggestions - they may just request that you rma it.
