ATI is hoping that Windows 7 and DirectX 11 will help stimulate a flat market for graphics cards. In an attempt to get a head start on the competition, ATI will have their new DirectX 11 graphics chips launched before Windows 7 hits the shelves:
DirectX 11 will offer a much better graphics experience than previous versions, and AMD’s first DirectX 11 capable GPU, the RV870, is expected to be launched at the back end of July.

Didn't know was this soon, and the new DX11 looks good, so defo worth holding out a few weeks for the new cards surely, as price of current ATI cards should also fall by 10% at least in price.

Any news when Nvidia cards will be out?

Thanks mate. Im defo holding out for new cards then, all though im guessing Nvidia will as usual price us all out of getting one:)
So ATI will be the value i hope:)

I'm just hoping that as soon as the new cards come out the prices of current ones reduce accordingly, am on the verge of buying a 4890 as it is, so if I can shave a few more quid off by waiting a while then that would be good. But how long can I wait before I get impatient......!

thanks for that.

looking to go crossfire with my 4850 and i will hold out now for a further price drop in the near future.

Im excited;)

That mobo will be brilliant for these cards, as will i7.

Will snap one of these up asap I think, possibly 2 or a x2 if they come out at the same time.

Snap up these ASAP? The new cards coming out?

Won't we need new motherboards for the new cards coming out?

What if i was to buy a custom built system,

With Core I7, that motherboard above, 6gb ram and 1tb hard drive.

Then get a one of the new GPU's when they come out with windows 7

Would that be possible? or would i need to uprade anything?

The RV870 is described as ATI's "Mainstream" DX11 part, whether this means the first cards are a direct replacement for the HD4870/4890 or whether they replace a lower end part is yet to be confirmed. If it's the 4890 equivalent, then ATI will have quite a lead over Nvidia for a few months before the "GT300" appears. Also if the RV870 is the 4890 replacement, then expect to see a flagship dual GPU card very quickly afterwards. If it's not the 4890's replacement, then we may have to wait until Q1 2010 before we see high performance DX11 parts from either company.

Knowing the answer to this question would allow people to decide whether to wait for RV870, or buy a high performance DX10/10.1 part now.

Personally I've always bought Nvidia products (All the way back to the NV1), but I'm not so much as a fanboi that I wouldn't switch. (But I have just recieved 2 GTX275's so I'm gambling on performance DX11 parts being at least 6 months away).

I read somewhere that the first two new ATI cards are for the high end market. Then they will sell a cheaper(wrong word i know) version of the two high end cards.

Not sure how true this is, but i will hold on to find out.

No, you can buy one of these on release day and plug it right it without upgrading anything.

Hell you could stick one in a 2 year old Dell as long as it had a PCI-E slot.

Ok thanks for that, i might stock up soon then, i defo want the Core i7 920 before stock runs out.:)

I currently have a pretty decent system for the games I play, but want to upgrade my card for operation flashpoint among other things....am I likely to see bottle necks with the new GPU with this system:

E6600 @ stock
Intel badaxe 2
2gb ddr2 ram

I will be moving up from a 8800GTS. I know it is hard to tell at this stage, but any ideas? Should I revamp the rest of the system or get more ram at the same time?
