Battlefield Heroes Open Beta

Just been playing a few games, it's quite fun, gets boring after a few maps though.

Quite like the idea of being able to skill up, buy(rent) new clothes for your character (only using the silver funds you earn through play). Seems like a nice little timewaster for short bursts to me.

Can't imagine why people would use the microtransactions though, especially when the stuff you 'buy' you only actually rent for a week or a month though.

edit: I'd also recommend people to not lvl up your heroes though, managed to get a game with new characters (after a couple of tries) but I just got one to lvl 5 and after a dozen tries it can't find a server for me now :/

The battlefunds are for more then just clothes, you can also buy an XP bonus and VP bonus items, which mean leveling will be much faster. Still, it is overpriced for what it is though, if you want to keep an XP bonus and some clothes you end up paying more then what an MMO costs per month, for MUCH less.

This is not true anymore. It used to be like this, but due to a large amount of complaints from the beta community, they made all items available for an unlimited amount of time at their current prices, and lowered the prices if you only want them for a week or a month or so.

Ah yes, didn't look at the battlefunds item pricing properly. I see what you mean about the pricing though. To buy just a jacket and an earing costs just over £4:50 if you buy the smallest battlefunds package available.

If you want to buy a permenant item for each slot it costs at least 3515 which is about £22.50 if you buy 7000 BFP for £45 :)

hmm the Kommendants coat with Flyers scarf and black sombrero does look cool though... :p

The pricing is absolutley insane, the cheek of them.

However, some of the pay for items have become buyable with the earnable currency for me at later levels. I don't know how many will unlock in levels to come, but it doesn't mention this anywhere. I would be pretty miffed if I payed real money to rent expensive digital clothes only to find out I could have done it for free with a little patience.

Quite enjoying the game this time around. It doesn't feel any different to the closed beta (which bored me), but it seems to be clicking this time.

Agreed, the pricing is really quite spectacular.

I however spent £18 buying the pirate outfit which was only available during the closed beta. Why? Because it was the only permanent outfit available at the time, and will (supposedly) never be available again.

Considering I actually really quite enjoy the game, I feel it was a worthwhile purchase. :)

Hmmm, really don't like the 3rd person perspective and it all looks way too cartoony... all the time I was playing I was thinking "wish I was playing BF2"!

Looks like people are trying to get other peoples accounts already, I received a request to reset my password that I did not do. Infact then I've got an email to varify my account, but the address is battlefieldheroes.com and not battlefield-heroes.com

Anyway trying to play it, any idea why it's always coming up with unable to connect?

The website IS battlefieldheroes.com. The one with the - in it is the old beta one?

I played this a bit more yesterday and actually started to enjoy it. I bought some new guns and started adding missions to my action list. The missions start very simply - score x amount of points/capture x amount of flags ect. Some missions can be completed easily part way through a game. My issue is that you can only have three missions at a time and as far as I can tell you can only get new missions by leaving your current game and going back to the log in screen. Does anyone know if this is the only way?

Also the random server thing is a bit odd. What happened to the old days when you got to choose what server to join from a long list? This game just sticks you in a random one as it thinks it is right for you.

We asked for the ability to change missons while playing the game in the beta but it was never imlpemented, the early missonsa re fairly simply just wait till you have to kill/ do dmg in 1 round, as a commando it becomes very hard as some games are over far to quickly. Also if you find a server you like you can bookmark/save to fav so you can come back to it.

Royal Heroic Beta Medal Code: APR4-W6A5-54CB-83CG
National Heroic Beta Medal Code: FM8N-MMMW-SBMM-PWEF

for anybody that wants these...personally im waiting for bad company 2 and BF3;)

My only complaint is the rounds don't last long enough to complete some of the missions.

Level 4 infantry requires 15 kills and 2000 infantry damage in a round, Ive got the kills a few times but never enough time to get the damage as well.

The one thing that really gets me is I hardly ever get kills from running people over, but I only have to be glanced by a vehicle and I die. I hit a guy today at full speed in a jeep and I just drove straight through him.

Other than that and not being able to addor change missions without quitting is abit daft.
The jumping is a bit annoying too sometimes.

Will give it a try if i have some free time and download it but i am a bit busy atm.

Looks alright not sure if i will go and pay money for outfits and stuff. ;)

"The core problem for Battlefield Heroes is simply that it’s shallower than a plate of soup. Each and every game feels the same as the one before it. You spawn, explore, shoot, die, wait five seconds, spawn and repeat. There’s no tension and you constantly feel expendable because of it – if you die, what? Five seconds wait is nothing; you just reappear again right next to the battle. The logic works both ways too, so killing enemies is never fun either and rarely feels like an achievement that’s going to affect the game at all."

"...the reality is that Battlefield Heroes is a poor, boring and shallow game. There are a series of lousy design decisions which have been put into place for the sole purpose of earning EA money – even the viewpoint for example, which is only third person so that you can see what clothes you’ve bought from the store."

Think I'll pass.
