Anyone recommend movies like "Event Horizon"

How about the dead space anime?
I bought it the other day but have not had chance to watch it all yet so will be doing either tonight or tomorrow.
From what Ive seen so far it looks quite good

It is excellent, but have found only peeps that like anime really like this
 
Event Horizon was epic. It's unbelievable to think it was directed by the same guy that did AvP. How can a director get one movie so perfect and yet get another so badly badly wrong?

Apparently Steven Spielberg is working on a movie like Event Horizon... at least it is a space sci-fi and involves wormholes etc...

There aren't really any films that are "like" Event Horizon. The closest is probably Sphere but lacks the pace and focus that Event Horizon has - you really need to be patient with some of the psychological subplots and put up with Dustin Hoffman to get through Sphere.

No idea why "Deep Blue Sea" is mentioned in this thread though :D Haha.

It really is hard to think of anything comparable to Event Horizon - it's THE quintessential Sci-Fi/Horror/Terror flick; and yes, it is mind-boggling to think how Paul WS Anderson went from that to the utter dreck he craps out now.

EDIT: no, I'm wrong, it's James Cameron heading up that one, and it doesnt sound that dark so not really one for this thread.

There are a few 1980's titles but not sure about the availability on DVD:

Night Flyers (this was spoofed in part of Waxworks 2).

Moon 44 - recently found a copy of this for £1 in the orange supermarket but PQ was pants and about halfway through the sound went out completely).

Screamers and its sequel Screamers (er) 2 was also quite good.

You've also got the Wing Commander movie which, although it went off the canon of the games a bit, I quite enjoyed.
 
Very much like Event Horizon? but might not be available on dvd

Dark Side of the Moon (1990)
Project Shadowchaser: Beyond the Edge of Darkness (1995)

More recently, possibly Dante 01.

PS no sharks in any of these space movies, sorry ;)
