Amazing how computer games mimics real life..........

One of the game's biggest financial institutions lost a significant chunk of its deposits as a huge theft started a run on the bank.

One of the bank's controllers stole about 200bn kredits and swapped them for real world cash of £3,115.

As news of the theft spread, many of the bank's customers rushed to remove their virtual cash.

I was in a corp in EvE once that had nearly everything stolen.

Lols.

Some people think I did it, if I did I would be rich!

I blame Helen.

Heh, DBank (another bank in EVE) ran off with my money only a week or two ago - seems like they are all at it :p

Love all the theft that goes on in Eve.

The scandal is not the first to play out in Eve Online. In early 2009 one of the game's biggest corporations, called Band of Brothers, was brought down by industrial espionage.

Errr, not exactly chaps :)

read this earlier and had a good chuckle. I really admire Eve for mimicking real-life situations sometimes.

It has now emerged that Ricdic used the cash to put down a deposit on a house and to pay medical bills.

Good. Video game money used to pay medical bills and a mortgage isn't a bad thing really! If only I could do that!

hehe the guy was just carrying out his space piracy, it's all legit, and a lesson to those who bought in-game money >.<

This is awesome. Don’t know why he didn’t clear more out from the bank, after all, it is not even illegal activity. At worst it is against the games terms and conditions or ‘cheating’.

Still the devs could just programme some more in to replace it lol. Oh and how did this make BBC news, things must be slow today lol.
