**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Current player... still playing for Hull's first team?

I'd have guessed Geovanni but don't think that's right... only other guess would be Bernard Mendy but I only remember him playing for Bolton and PSG before Hull...

Can't think of anyone else good enough =/

Current, yeah.

Not Mendy or Geovanni.

Remember I said I was bending the rules though.

Michael Turner

I win the google-off! :p

Ask Christian Vieri if he remembers coming up against a lanky 16- year-old from London and he is unlikely to say yes.

You could probably show the former Italian superstar video footage and he would still look blank.

But for one Hull City defender, it was an afternoon clash that will not slip easily from his thoughts.

Eight years ago, Michael Turner lived the dream in the shadow of the San Siro stadium.

The Londoner spent a season with Inter Milan as part of Charlton Athletic's loan deal for apprentices.

He trained away from the likes of Clarence Seedorf, Recoba and Christian Zanetti, but for one memorable game, Turner and his youth team colleagues were pitted up against the cream of Serie A.

Boo I just found that on Wiki :p

Turner was born in Lewisham, London, and started his career at Charlton Athletic. As part of a link-up Charlton had with Internazionale, he spent several months of his apprenticeship with the Italian club's under-19 team

I just dont think I will ever get used to seeing Owen in a Utd shirt, it just seems so odd. Ironically enough, I got the same feeling when I saw Ince in a Liverpool shirt.

That BBC photo of Owen in a Man Utd shirt is like one of those optical illusion pictures, where things are all out of whack. No matter how many times I look at it, it just doesn't seem right. Like it's a bad photoshop or something.

In fact, can anyone prove to me right now I'm not actually asleep?

Wow, Michael Owen, theres a curveball!
Not the most exciting of signings for sure but I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now and hope he isn't the last player to come in this summer.
It's not surprising to see a lot of MU fans overreacting and criticising the club, SAF etc right now.
Certainly it is not ideal, losing such high profile players without having someone/s of similar allure to replace them.
But if players prefer to play elsewhere or if clubs are asking silly money for them, what can be done? And who are we to assume we know just who are really realistic targets, by way of them wanting to come here and their clubs being prepared to sell. Certainly the papers should not be trusted.
Better to not waste money and overpay on players like Ribery and Benzema etc who hardly seemed too keen on joining anyway.
This current situation is exactly why the average fan isn't paid to take charge of a football club, it would be too easy to see it as a game of FM.
So I hope we are patient and spend the cash on good signings, even if that means having to wait a little bit.
Although Alexis Sanchez looks pretty decent from my extensive scouting (3 minute youtube clip).
As it stands, I still feel we have a chance of winning something next year.
Our defence should continue to concede very few for one thing.
But as it stands our success will depend on certain players who could go either way (berba, nani, Anderson etc).
So too many variables to be confident but still too much potential to be too pessimistic

So, outside of Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea, is anything else happening on the transfer front?
Small sampling from the Beeb...

1540 BST: Former Italy striker Christian Vieri, 35, is set to sign for Blackburn Rovers. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

1048 BST: Arsene Wenger is confident Emmanuel Adebayor will remain at Arsenal, but revealed he would consider Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh as a possible replacement. (French radio station RMC)

Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell is considering a shock move to Championship club Newcastle United.

AC Milan could make a remarkable £12m bid for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch if they fail to sign Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor.

Fulham are also keen on Pompey's giant hitman, preparing a £10m bid.

Can't see Sol moving to Newcastle unless he's worried about not playing much for Pompey next season... Crouch to AC Milan doesn't sound at all right.

Two other interesting pieces

Everton are set to raid Leeds to sign highly-rated defender Luke Garbutt in a £1m deal. (Daily Star)

Stoke are set to make a £5m bid for Manchester City's Zimbabwean striker Benjani. (Daily Star)
