Hi,
I'm always on a bit of a budget where pcs are concerned. I want to upgrade a budget graphics card I bought a while ago to a slightly better one. Will I notice much difference in performance between these 2 cards?

from this one..
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3450 Silence 512MB DDR2 TV-Out/DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

to this one..
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Also if I have a DDR2 motherboard will this support the DDR3 card? (the 2nd option above).

Yes, they don't need to be the same for it to work (4850 uses GDDR3).

The increase in performance will be quite startling, I hope you have a PC which will make full use of it :)

I have E8400 with 4gb ram. On XP home at mnute but I just downloaded Windows 7 rc 64 bit.

Yeah one is a card that's really designed for HTPC use, the other is a budget gaming card that's a bit of a pocket-rocket. :)
