Panel Types- HP'24 or DELL'24

Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP
HP LP2475w 24" Widescreen


What type of panels do they use?
What difference in those 2 panels?
Which panel is better and why?
 
HP Uses a H-IPS
Dell uses S-PVA

H-IPS = Better Colours/ Very Goodviewing Angles/Slow Response Times.
S-PVA = Good Viewing Angles/Good Colours/Faster Response than IPS
TN = ok Viewing Angles/Bad Colours/Super Fast Response

Depends on your uses.

i had a HP & Loved it.i recently swapped it for a 30" samsung which is a S-PVA but the colours was far better due to better calibration in the factory.

if you going to be gaming, Check out the input lag & response time. on all the monitors you consider :)

The HP Had 54ms Max input lag i noticed once or twice but didn't bother me but may bother you.

if you going to gaming a lot try sticking to S-PVA
 
I do play a lot of games and watch movies etc.

Well I hope the HP is good for gaming, I read a fair few reviews and it seemed the HP has better image quality than the dell and the HP is ment to only be 6ms response time? Hope its not much higher than that to be honest :/

It's Grey to Grey to a certain type of test to measure the LCDs response time.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, don't H-IPS panels have faster response times than S-PVA? Or is it input lag?

depends partly on the panel. S-PVA have aggressive overdrive which causes inverse ghosting which I don't see nearly as much of on my H-IPS HP. Input lag is also much lower on the IPS than the PVA which IMHO is more important than response time these days (once response times got under 10ms they became much of a muchness).
 
the HP has 6ms response but has up to 54ms input lag averages out at 24ms input lag

found it online after some research

i notice it now & again on my HP but not on my sammy
 
The HP is a lot better than the Dell. I'll never buy a VA/TN screen again after owning an NEC 20WGX2 for 4 years, and the HP is the only screen for less than £500 I have seen that can beat it. I'll be picking up a HP myself soon :)

The recent Dell screens also have enormous input lag, which is far worse than any latency issues as small as the difference between 2 and 6ms.
 
I have the HP and I went from an OCuK value.

It was like going from LCD back to a CRT in terms of responsiveness so for a LCD it gets my thumbs up.

THE HP assistant software updates from HP's site and includes a firmware updater.

Updating target monitor:

1. Launch the HP DA Firmware Updater by clicking on the shortcut on the desktop. Click 'Yes' to update to the firmware.
2. HP DA Firmware Updater will identify the display and automatically select the firmware updates that need to be uploaded to the display.
3. The display will go black and the LEDs will blink on and off in 1 second internvals. When the flashing of the LEDs increases to 2 times a second, the display is in the final process of updating. Do NOT disrupt the power at this time.
4. Once completed, the Windows desktop will appear and a status message will appear indicating the success of the update.

I tried this but a dialog box says my monitor is not connected to a USB cable - strange because it was connected using the included USB cable. Maybe it's because the monitor has the latest firmware, since it was Made in the Czech Republic, May 2009.

Just played a quick round of L4D, big improvement on my Dell Ultrasharp 2005, no ghosting at all everything stays crisp even with fast moving. Input lag is lower too much easier to beat smokers and hunters :)
