Right, I am sick to death of TF2, ID hasnt made a proper online FPS game in seemingly decades since Q3, and very few others (if any) seem capable of producing anything half decent.

So what is everyone playing these days? Q3 long dead, RTCW long dead, CS I couldnt stand and long dead as well. So whats replaced them? I want something with a lot of players so theres worthwhile competition and plenty of servers.

yeah seen left 4 dead but if the netcode is anything like tf2 itll be a load of crap lol. its not really a normal FPS either as far as i can tell.

surely ut3 is hardly played now, its kinda old? and i dont remember it ever being that popular even when it came out.

Quakelive is relatively popular - tho imo the "netcode" is well dodgy atm (yes I know all about backwards reconciliation, how the hit box and visual model aren't always in sync, etc.)

Left 4 Dead and COD4 are still pretty popular.

ETQW Still has an active community tho its fairly small, CS1.6 still has a pretty big following tho CSS is taking over the ground now.

couldnt stand CS too slow and boring, im assuming css is very similar the rest all seem to be silly war sims. is there anything that actually requires some skill (i.e. you dont die from fluke shots from idiots half the time), and if you have the skill you can do serious damage to the other people or team?

TF had this until they killed any requirement for actual skill. im not going to get into an argument about tf2, what i do know is all the good players left long ago and i have no idea where they went :P

i tried quake live, complete waste of time imo, its quake3 in a web browser.....that you have to queue to join. rubbish

QW was unbeatable, Quake3 was great, RA3 was great, RTCW was great. is there anything left similar to any of those?

The queue was only for the launch week coz they didn't have the hardware... its long gone now.

They've reworked and graphically updated many of the maps and added some new ones in, some of them look nice and play well.

I'm not a huge fan of some of the weapon tweaks but generally they've tweaked it for better balance and requires skill generally.

My main complaint at the moment is the hit "registry" is ropey at best.

hit registry would drive me up the wall as much as tf2s dire netcode. plus im against playing in a web browser just because someone wanted to prove they could do it lol

It works quite well in that regard imo - easy to find servers, can play from anywhere with your config with minimal (relative) download.

how similar is cod4 to rtcw?

id try left 4 dead but after tf2 i just dont trust valve enough to pay for it then find i cant stand it after 5 mins.

i think i may try cod4, apparently the biggest selling fps of all time according to wiki so cant be too bad. onyl problem is its out since 2007, cant have much life left!! plus new one out on nov 10. i guess if its any good ill be ready for modern warfare 2 :P

Cod 4 requires minimum skill it's a very arcadey your gran can pick up and own on game.
I wouldn't go near it if you want to be rewarded for skill aiming.
Why don't you try some of the free hl2 mods like insurgency, yes it's slow but at least you cant run around pointing mouse in general direction spraying getting kills like cod 4.

If not then battlefield 2 or cs source but for me most people just aren't that in to pc gaming online these days everyone likes xbox live and psn.

And I have to agree fight night round 4 and fifa 09 much better than anything currently on pc apart from company of heroes.

I'd love to see you play a serious clan game and run around direction spraying and own.
