Will You Buy Windows 7???

Im tempted to buy W7 when it comes out, but with my RC it will remain 100% functional until March 2010, which by then hopefully there'll be some kind of price-cut to make it even more appealing.

ActiveX was only ever just a rebrand of OLE (which had been part of windows since 1990), and the facility to use it in a web page. It also wasn't that different in HTML use to NPAPI that was included with netscape (and was used (including by IE) and is still used by many browsers, including chrome and firefox).

The goal of including ActiveX (or OLE) support was to avoid software developers having to write seperate extensions for the web to those they already wrote for windows.

No idea about NPAPI never heard of it before tbh. A quick google suggests IE dropped support since IE5.5. and it seems quite limited in scope compared to ActiveX. OLE was a pain, and not very robust in my experience. But ActiveX is widely used, is robust and frequently used to hook into windows or ms office apps from a web applications amongst other things. So I think its bit more than a rebrand. I dunno how people can say it backfired as its widely used.

I flick between IE7/8 Safari 3/4 and Firefox 2.5/3 Lately though I've been using IE a lot more, I need it for work, but with a lot of tabs open it crashes far less than the other browsers. Safari 4 is especially bad for that. I also prefer how Bookmarks are handled in IE. I've never been able to synch book marks between machines reliably with the other browers. They tend to great duplicates for some unknown reason.

Yup, i have been running windows 7 RC2 on my laptop, it works a lot better. I will probally coincide buying a new computer with upgrading the whole pc in october.

I have already mentioned I will be buying Windows 7...I might pre-order two copies of Professional. One for the main PC and the other for my laptop and then will later pre-order Ultimate for my gaming PC...all of them x64 unless the laptop one will be fine for x86 :D

Could someone clarify something for me please - I have 3 machines in the house I would like to install Windows 7 on - currently they're all running the RC and I am very happy with them. I read somewhere that MS will offer some sort of family license for multiple PCs - anyone know anything about this? Otherwise would I need 3 seperate OEM licenses? If theres a decent deal for multiple installs MS would have my money for the first time since Win98 :)
