**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Billy Bremner, Tony Adams, Bobby Moore, Roy Keane.

Not perfect individuals. Keane was a thug and Adams was a drunk, but on the pitch brilliant captains. Leaders are captains. Not just good players.

You don't need to be "mature" to be a captain, you need balls.

It's the same in any aspect of life, natural born leaders will shine through, they're the people who stand up and fight and inspire you when it gets tough.

Roy Keane, was not as gifted on the ball as Giggs, but Giggs didn't have balls like Keano.

Leading people isn't something you learn, or develop as a player, it's something that you are born with, that ability to take command, to inspire and encourage people. To motivate them, and having massive balls helps.

Back on topic, regardless of 'teams on paper' I think this year will be even tighter than last year. The top three are so evenly matched now.

Shame about Arsenal :D

Right now possibly

I expect Chelsea to get out the cheque book big time for the new manager - maybe not to the level people where expecting (Ribery etc) but significant investment in a handful of players (not incl the Russian finalised I believe today)

Liverpool are in for a decent shout at the moment too, but it really depends if there is any real truth to the Masch and Alonso speculation, if BaZ is correct and they both stay - then naturally they have a very good chance at the title depending on how things settle in W London. Otherwise it depends on who they can attract (from Spain?), but at least temporarily it would be a huge loss to lose one let alone both.

Man Utd need strength in midfield even if Hargreaves does recover fully, and personally I would like to see another winger. Another quality striker and that suggests more time on the wing for Rooney which I really hope doesnt happen. At the moment its too up in the air for my liking - and I never like when players arrive after the season has started due to quality (or lack thereof ) of pre-season, dont have time to get to know the team mates etc etc

With a few more years of experience, and a bit more maturity, why not?
So when you say "special players are ones that could lead a team", you actually meant to add "in a few years time, if they mature, and have been loyal, maybe"?

Because, on that basis, then you could pretty much make the same argument for anyone you've already disqualified.

Rumours abound that Christian Vieri has been invited for a trial with Blackburn Rovers...just read it on the news ticker on sky sports news.

Kinda old at 35 although i remember him scoring quite a few goals for Inter and Italy when he was in prime.

Ronaldo says that the Spainish League is better :D

FINALLY someone agrees with me :)
Oh aye, because when the media from your new league ask you what you think of it, you're really going to answer "Well, the culture's closer to mine, I can loaf on the beach more often, I'm getting paid a ****load, and the refs are so far up attackers' backsides it'll be a cakewalk to play here," aren't you?

Doesn't mean he's not right, and he is.

Definitely will be closer now that Man Utd lost Ronaldo..makes a change i suppose without having United dominating but i wouldnt be surprised if Man Utd win the Prem title again.

As for Arsenal???...im hoping they do well this season but without any major signings well its hard to be confident they will win anything but who knows. Just wish we would get on with selling some of our deadwood players ie Adebayor but if he doesnt go then i hope he has a better season than he did last season...wishful thinking??..of course:p

Well lets hope your saviour Ancelotti does a better job than Scholari did...would be a crying shame if he ended up getting sacked after 30 odd games:D...perhaps he can bring you your coveted CL title this yr

Scored an absolute cracker the year before last I think probably goal of the season.

Yup i remember that pretty well...he was good when he was playing well...just a shame he wasnt all that consistant especially when playing for Italy.

Meh, I have no opinion either way on the matter, as I don't watch Spanish football, but of course he's going to say it's better. It doesn't prove anyone right, or back up any point.

True.

To be fair I probably should've quoted Gimp as he said it explicitly, but yours was further down. :p
