VTR OR Zetec S??

zetec s is a better quality car but you are wanting a little run around, so get the vtr as its a bit quicker and handles a better. not as good quality though.

ive been in both

Equivalent pug to the VTR would be the 1.6 XSi.

Not sure if it shares it's suspension setup with the GTi/VTS like the Saxo VTR does.

You won't find a decent Zetec S phase 2 for £1500.

You could maybe pick up an old MK1 Saxo VTS or '98 plate 106 GTi.

The XSi is phase 1, but shares the same suspension setup, except thinner arbs. Also has a drum rear beam, as opposed to discs.

The closest phase 2 equivalent to the vtr is the rallye. Same engine, much better gearbox, and lighter, hence quicker. The VTR has the most ridiculous gearbox. Geared for over 160mph in fifth, very long making it a slower that it could potentially be.

The box is silly I agree.

I have seen a few VTR's with just breathing mods and an S1 rallye gearbox pull 15 sec 1/4 mile times.

Yeh I can imagine, the s1 rallye box is great, the xsi and s2 rallye boxes aren't far behind though. Motorway can be very tiresome though. Mine was about 4000rpm @ 70 and about 4300 at 80. Less than ideal really.

For MPG indeed, thats where the VTR box is great.

I suggest you drive both, then tell us how great the Saxo handled.

Push the boat out and get the VTS, you will not be disappointed!

Yours? I thought it was hers. ;)

And, you selling? :(

:p

Yep, selling up. We're trying to save money and running the 205 + vrs is costing us a bit.

Idea is to sell it and buy a 106 1.5D or similar for her daily commute (35 miles or so).

205 is awesome, I wish we could keep it but she's put her foot down.

1.5D 106....:( :p

If I had the BMW sold I'd be interested...stupid BMW. :(

200bhp/tonne down to about 60bhp/tonne

She'll be driving it daily though, not me- so she's making a rod for her own back.

It's up on Pistonheads and ebay, so would imagine it'd get snapped up.

My car is heavier than 1 tonne, and used to have 200bhp...but probably has about 150 at the moment...just before you blow steam out of the head. :p

I love 205s though, so it's in the running for next toy. :D

Sorry, I meant the 106 not your BMW!

Yeah, 205s are awesome- every car nut must try a 205 gti out (mi16 if they can) one time in their life!

I can assure you that an Zetec S and VTR are pretty much identical in speed. Its not noticable, both are slow.

I can assure you that they're quite different. And the VTR is far from slow for a hot hatch...

Sorry we don't all have the money to buy super cars Mr. Money
