Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

I am looking to overclock but only to around 3.2GHz. I have a C2D 65 Nm E6600 at 3.2 and have no heat issues at present. My case is very good at dissipating heat.

That shouldn't be too bad then. let us know how you get on with it anyway

Derek yeah i have still go the fan and and will try that now you said about it .
Should be intresting to see the out come from that .

Cheers

I see you paid around the same amount of money for the v8 as i did for my noctua so i would expect the cooling ability to be of a similar standard. Hopefully though even with just the stock fan your temps will lower whilst idle.

Will do. :)

Are there any good guides around here regarding OC'ing a Q9550/P5Q Deluxe with 8GB of OCZ 6400 (keeping the ram at stock speeds)?

not sure if there are any topics specific to that setup, try in the overclocking section and certainly read the beginners guide, pinned to the top of the page. and most importantly if in doubt, ask. someone will be able to keep you right :)

Mines idles around 50c also, think its the crappy AC heatsink and fan, mind you my case is pretty hot. I have mines undervolted quite a bit to help but doesnt seem to make much differance. It doesnt really bother me running this hot, its not like im gonna be keeping for a long time.

Ok i had another heat sink that i put in today and to find that its even hotter with this one which is Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme and now temps on this one are at 54 + c ..

Odd this .So the other one was better lol by 2c .

I am starting to wonder if the mobo is reading it wrong ? ..

mastering3d: no, man, mobo works fine. I have P5K-E and [email protected] (stock volts), my idle temps are around 46-48*C, under heavy game load (GTA IV) ~72-75*C, Linpack is death for my CPU. :D Oh, and cooler is TT BigTyp 120 Original (not VX), 1400RPM fan. No ideas about temps... Very hot 45nm quad chip, maybe))) So, if you want to take really high FSB -> you need WaterCool or something else. :)
P.S: ...or 10 fans with 10000RPM :D

Just seems odd that i have just put stock heat sink in now and getting same temps as V8 dont get it ,I know what your saying but how can stock SINK be same temp as V8 monster ,Its pretty warm in my room where pc is but that counts for nothing when you look at stock fan and v8 with same temps ,Some thing not right here I have good air in and out system ,Yes i have Water cool system here but wanted to get away from that now after using water cooling for years .Its the zalman v1 tower hard to move round if you go to lan partys or even in bed room and cost a lot to put the top water cool system in to the pc ,I worked it out the other day to just see the price and was some thing around 400+ mark far too much .

ah well back to the drawing board .

Cheers .

After all the problems i was having with temps ,I was thinking well v8 and side fan wont go so i done a mod to fix that problem and here are the images to it .

Now getting 46c from 52c and gpu was at 55 now at 46c idle ,

cpu full load go's to only 52c now where it was that idle before mod and gpu was at 80 full load now only go's 60c or 65c some times .

And hope u like the mod :D i know i do .

Was running Q9550 in a (firstedition) stacker case 2 x120cm fans at front with 1x120 at rear and 1x80cm at top with P35 board and Tuniq cooler (slow fan speed) and was running at 39c/40c at idle.

50c at idle in your case is a bit on the high side.

When I looked at the original picture you posted I noticed that you have 3 fans in the roof , two of which are situate in front of the cpu cooler. If the three fans are exhaust fans is it possible that what is happening is that the cool air being sucked in at the front of the case (I assume you have at least one intake fan) is simply being exhausted out the roof before even hitting the cpu cooler - Just a thought that you may not have the best balanced airflow in your case.

Yes i tryed a lot combos on the fans configs but nothing i do seems to be lowering the temps ,I did get it to 46c one time lool and then was back to normal temp which is now round 48c all way under load go's to 55c not any higher .

But i still think there is some thing not right here and i cant work it out .

i turned off the two front roof fans and left it with one top over cpu sucking air out .one back of cpu sucking air out and one front blowing air in but was no better . any other ideas please .Mind you the one in the front dont sucking much air into the case .
I think there is some thing up with the mobo my self giving out wrong readings but i could be wrong .

Ugu, in my new ThermalTake Armor+ MX temps are about 39-40*C now at 3.83GHz. So... Good air flow = good CPU temp ;)
P.S: 230mm side fan is a great thing, I must say :D

I assume the temps you quote are at idle ? Look Good :D What about at load ?

What settings you running for 3.83 in bios ?

Cpu Cooler ?

I have a HAF much better than the armor tbh, my temps @3.83 is a range from 35c-40c

Oh, of course at idle :D
5h GTA IV non-stop gaming:D: the average temps are about 65*C, maximum 70*C for CPU and 73*C for the second core. The Prime95 1h testing without errors, max temp ~75-77*C. So, it's stable work with pretty cool temps, I think, some time before my temps was about 90*C in my old case. :D

In BIOS I am running AUTO settings for all voltages, except Memory freq, that is 1100MHz. Full load in CPU-Z; Vcore is about 1.29V.

Cooler is ThermalTake BigTyp 120 Original (not VX!) with stock fan at 1300RPM.

AMG, HAF 932 of course much better, but my temps are cool too :p
