Last year I was made redundant and have struggled to find work. I managed to get 3 hours part time work as a teacher in a college and informed JSA... suplied all pay slips etc.

However, JSA will not pay me any money because I am working for 3 hours... I have earnt less than I would have if I stayed at home doing nothing... infact If I had done nothing I would be £3500 better off today.

Ive shown initutive yet Im being penialised for working.

Today I had a letter from debt company asking for over £100 for unpaid water bill. I informed them that I had already paid it months ago. They said united utillitys recived the payment a few days late so Ive been charged double... United utillitys wont speak to me as they have "sold" my details to this dept company...

What a country we live in!

Tell the debt company that you have no knowledge of the amount owed and need to see supporting evidence. The chances are very good that even if you do owe this money, they will take an offer of much less as they're just out to see what they can get from you.

I agree that once you have no money, you fall into a poverty trap. I know that there will be those who talk endlessly about scroungers etc. but when you've been there, you do get a different perspective. I admire your determination and maybe you should see if there is anything else you should be claiming for.

Good luck for the future.

you can work 16 hours and JSA should still pay you if you earn less than the 50quid a week

you should also still be getting housing benefits. go talk to the job centre again. you must have been given an idiot to speak too last time

someone somewhere at sometime decided that 50quid a week is needed to live on and that if your not earning that much then benefits will bump you up to that much in pretty much every situation.

You're still better off than in Japan, they don't give you money even if you don't have a job and they work much, much longer hours than us just to pay the most basic bills.

also. as soon as your signing on go demand a crisis loan too. the main problem with all the benefits system is no one tells you about anything and you have to find it all out for yourself.

because of this it ends up with genuine people like yourself struggling and then scummers who never intend on working going and claiming crisis and maintenance loans left right and centre(they are told about all this by there scrounging familys , most go in and claim on there birthday!). ive seen people claim 700quid for a washing machine. they dont even have to show proper proof. its mad

Rob a bank.
Although generally the good people would get god knows how many years, yet all these dirty scruffs get yet off left right and centre.

The wealth disparity in Japan is absolutely massive and has been increasing steadily over the last 20 years. There's a lot of disaffected people there.

Are they actually legally allowed to double your bill btw?
There must be some company you can contct, as you can claim all credit card charges back for example.

being jobless sucks

I had to claim for around a year as I was ill, countless forms and bs that I really didn't want to be dealing with at the time

luckily I only had to go into the job centre once, that place is horrible, about 99% of the sub human scum in there were drunk or fighting

Ive been to see JSA and city council more times than I wish....

Apperently Council tax and rent were informed from JSA that my claim had ended so it was shut down. Yet JSA state that my claim has never ended and its been active all this time. However, Council tax cant contact JSA nor can JSA contact Council tax to verify correct details because of Data protection - I even offered to give a signed document giving eith party access to share my details yet that was refused.

JSA now claim Ive earned too much to qualify for JSA - since Feb to now Ive earned £675. Ive also pointed out that if I stayed on JSA at £64.30 per week I would have got a lot more - they are all crazy I tell you.

I went to the Job Centre on Monday, its a depressing place to visit, I was greeted with a bunch of chavs and a pitbull type dog at the door, you step into a different world in the job centre.
