Hi guys, ive been slotted by that Security Centre Hijacker on Windows XP SP3, I was using AVG 8.5 and the latest Zone Alarm.

It wont allow you to do anything, ie run programs, or connect to my wireless network never mind run anti virus or get to add/remove programs or system registry unless I purchase the "key" that undoes all the damage. Ive tried various tools like stinger and smitfraudfix, which was recommended on a tech support site but nothing is working....

Please help me out!

Download Avira AntiVir Rescue System

- Top one is an .exe that will attempt burn an ISO to an empty CD is your drive is supported.
- Bottom on is the .iso, use a program like ImgBurn to burn this to a CD.

Boot to said CD once the program has successfully be burned.

Follow on screen instructions to perform a scan, if that doesn't clean it;

Press F8 during startup to enter safe mode;

Install ESET NOD32 Free Trial OR Avira Free AV and Malware Bytes

Run both, let us know.

Thanks guys, but Stinger killed the bugger! Fiddled with some settings in safe mode, got it to scan everything and its nailed it... Grrrrrrrr the author of that hijacker should be tracked down and mutilated before being burnt at the stake!

Okay im now ready to scream, after STINGER had run, everything was working fine, now when I try to boot in to xp im faced with a black screen, after the windows loading symbol, with just my mouse cursor which will move unless I left click and then i get a single beep and it freezes up.

Ive tried running from last known good config and the same thing happens, safe mode is fine but have no restore points as that virus flooded them... :S

Have you run your Spyware apps while in Safe Mode? Do they still detect anything?

Or you could try using your XP cd to do a 'repair' of the current installation? Think you have to put the CD in and then press a key during boot up to say boot from CD, and then you should get an option to do a Repair, iirc.

Otherwise it might be time for a re-install?
