Remember when Max Payne creator Remedy suggested that its "psychological action thriller" Alan Wake could hit Xbox 360 first and the promised PC edition would follow? Well, it now appears that a PC release of the game isn't a question of when, but if.

"Other than [the Xbox 360 version] the plans are up in the air and open," lead writer Sam Lake told Edge. When asked if the game was still coming to PC, he said that "once we're done with the 360 version we'll evaluate the situation and see what makes sense."

Originally announced for the PC and "next generation consoles" in 2005, Alan Wake was later confirmed for Xbox 360 and PC when Microsoft signed on to publish in 2006, with the company recently specifying a "spring 2010" release for the Xbox 360 edition.

Shame if it didnt come to pc :(

What a suprise, microsoft shafting windows users in favour of console users.

Makes me wonder what they have to lose by letting it go to pc as well as the 360, either way its their platform.

I'm unsurprised, the game has been pushed back so many times now it was beginning to look like the next Duke Nukem Forever (it's even being given nicknames such as Alan Wait). Something had to give in, it was either quality, content or to go single platform, in order to not look like fools they went for the option that won't degrade the quality of the title while still turning out the greatest profit.

Bah. I remember watching a video a few years ago showing the terrain and weather system, saying that it needed a quad core CPU to play. I guess not then.

Depends what you mean by degrade the quality, in terms of visuals and most likely physics it won't be near as impressive as a pc version of the same game. In that sense it is being degraded.

Maybe, but it's less of a degradation than cutting content or rushing the release. I'd rather have a game with a bit of aliasing and lower res textures than one missing a portion of the game that should have been there or put up with bugs, glitches and balance issues caused by a rushed release.

Maybe so, im just waiting to see what excuse they can pull out of their ass if they decide not to do a pc version considering it was a pc only game and has been demo'd on pc.

The real reason is probably "It won't make us enough money to bother putting in the effort to port it". Which is fair enough to be honest.

More like they got a backhander from a certain software company to make sure it stays on only one format. Though im sure they will cite all sorts of crap that will make next to no sense, probably be as laughable as lucasarts and that last star wars game needing a 4 grand machine to run.

cant help but think it was going to be another 'alone in the dark' type failure, but then console owners will buy any old crap so i can understand them launching it on that platform first..

Excuse me? I'm a 'console owner' and I won't be buying it if it's 'any old crap'. Was that intended to sound as rude and idiotic as it did?

Shame about this. When will PC Gamers get some good news. It seems we are clinging on to those console games more than ever and I suspect things will get worse before they get better.

Can you imagine if PC gaming continues to dwindle down to the point where we're practically begging for a slice of the console pie.

Would it surprise anyone if Max Payne, Deus Ex or Thief 4 got the the same treatment

News in 2011 - Valve are considering a PC release, but all efforts are currently with the 360 'Steam' version of the game.

Of course the above won't happen any time soon), but is this where we are headed?
