ahh its the cyclonic unit

does anyone know if i can just buy the diaphram from bmw or gsf?

is there anyway i can bypass this unit instead of buying a brand new one?

Danny that's the oil seperator, you'll need a new one from BM for about 30 quid. You can't buy the diaphram it comes as a new sealed unit.

No you cannot bypass it to save money, buy a new one and stop being a ***** :p

I'd be inclined to call them and find out, but I don't think any constituent unit parts are available seperately. I believe the unit is sold complete. However I did just take a look through the fab website and they happen to have a 95 728 breaking at the moment. Give them a try, quote the seven series and ask for the cyclonic valve (possibly called the PCV) unit's price. They are good knowledgable folks and should be able to tell you how much and price postage costs to your location.

Pay by card on the telephone and you're good to go. Failing that, if you are confident, have a ring round the breakers yards etc. I'm sure one of the UK's independants will have one.

Ah, well done Tom. I didn't know they were as cheap as that :)

my mate has a 1998 e36 325 breaking will that be the same unit? its only done 70k

You could take a punt on it, but there remains the chance that it is just as clogged as your old unit. So you either need it to be cheap at a tenner maximum or you need to be able to return it. Having said that, is thirty pounds so much new for peace of mind and the given assurance ?

Spend the money on new. Tom's done well here and I hope he's right. I would have to have waited until tommorrow to be able to find out the price on new. So do it! :D

i can get the 2nd hand one for free

i will get a new one if i can find a shop or bmw garage with one on the shelf, but tom said its special order

need car back on the road for monday or boss will not be impressed..

A work of art :D Good show. It'll be like a whole new engine!

hi mate

yeh it does feel much nicer, idles perfect and response is much better, however it still limits at 5400 rpm

i think it needs the fault codes clearing because the guy who diagnosed it before cleared it twice and both times the problem went away then came back. gonna be doing some miles in her tonight i hope it clears its self up.

unless theres a way i can clear the codes myself?

Hmm. Not sure on this without seeing it first hand but the ECU might have tripped into limp mode. Something like that. I'll make another call tommorrow and see if I can find out why it would still hold at 5400 rpm's after this issue.

As an owner of an e36 328i myself, I can't help wondering why you'd want to go beyond 5400rpm anyway!

Just because yours is auto and doesn't rev high doesn't mean us manual boys can't enjoy 6500-7000rpm. :p

Au contraire!

In "Sport" mode on the autobox it'll happily scream round to the red line, the point being that by 5400rpm the engine is well past its peak torque, not to mention peak power!

At such engine speeds it does sound great though. :D
