With 700HP and a mind-blowing 3,150 Nm (2,323 lbs.ft) of torque, Volvo Truck's FH16 is now the most powerful series-manufactured truck in the world. Volvo's flagship truck is fitted with a new D16G engine that is a further development of the company's current D16 engine producing 660HP. In addition to an extra 40 horsepower and higher torque, the new 16.0-liter engine produces cleaner exhaust gases and is certified for the new Euro 5 European emission requirements that come into force on October 1st 2009.

"The Volvo FH16 is intended for the very heaviest and most demanding of transport operations. It is also a highly prestigious truck for the customer who is looking for something truly out of the ordinary. Now, with 700 hp, the Volvo FH16 sets itself apart from everything else in the industry," said Staffan Jufors, President and CEO of Volvo Trucks.

Aside from the 700HP version, the Volvo FH16 with the D16G engine is also available at Euro 5 with new 600-horsepower and 540-horsepower variants.


Scanias R620 (620BHP) is truly stunning, Volvo have taken the rulebook & thrown it out of the window.

Shame the cab design is so far behind the times though, that said, with 700BHP, who cares?

ah i didn't realise this bloke got the very first one. I read it in the local paper a few weeks ago in Norway, as he's from the 'big town' up the road from where i live. Briefly skimmed the article, i thought he was just the first in Norway.

the speed limit on norwegian roads is 80km/h, but the trucks all do 85, 90 minimum, so it's good to see that they should be able to continue this tradition with ease

Given that by law they are limited to 52 - 56MPH, a very long time.....

Joking apart, block changing (i.e. not going 1,2,3,4 etc in gearchanges) even with a fair load behind it, it'll out drag a lot of cars quite easily.

I say this because a truck with 420BHP and an empty trailer will happily out drag a lot of cars & light vans - I do it all the time!

Nothing wrong with Volvo's or Scanias - The Sweedes really know how to build HGV's.

Imo, from a drivers point of view though, Scanias have a considerable edge.

Much less roll, better brakes and a range of V8's that are legendary.

I'd rather a 620BHP R620 Scania than a 700BHP Volvo FH16 lets put it like that!

In an ideal world, I'd have a Scania V8 driveline with a DAF XF Cab & Mercedes Seat!
