Windows 7 hits RC stage Build 7100

Edit2 - Next up, graphics driver. Radeon 9000. Utterly unsupported, and a common problem it seems. In the end I found a link to a Chinese (or Japanese) site and used more skills to navigate without being able to read two thirds of it. Got what I needed. Can't complete the windows performance experience calculation but I can't get Aero anyway so it's no loss. Everything else works.

any idea if it supports 9200? any chance of a link or the file..

Where there's a will there's a way ;)

but what's the point rc is extremely stable andvlegal. so why bother.

i've got an ati pci card, it's a 9250 i think, and vista has a basic driver only for it

ie, you could use it as a server, but that's about it

yeah w7 is saying it's a basic vga adapter. Hopefully berserkers driver will work, or I can find one on the same site he found his.

In a powerful wave of anticipatory man-drool, Windows 7 build 7600 has made its way to the file sharing services. What's interesting here is that the major jump in build revisions from the current 72xx builds suggests, but does not guarantee, that 7600 is the Release To Manufacturing (RTM) build rumored for a July 13th release (yes today) -- the same Windows 7 build that will be handed out by Microsoft to it partners in the run-up to Microsoft's October 22nd consumer launch. If it is the RTM build then we'd expect to hear some kind of announcement with the kickoff of Microsoft's Worldwide Partner conference in New Orleans later today.

I was about to post the 7600 infos.

Now here's the thing, will this release allow an update to final RTM if it is not the final RTM? I mean, if I update to Win7 7600 from vista and if 7600 is not the final will I have to reinstall?

Or will it be better to wait until it is out fully? :p

There's been an issue with the radeon 9000 IGPs since vista. I have a mobo with a Radeon 9100IGP chipset (RS300?), and any other gfx card you add there is a code 43 problem that prevent acceleration. I think it's to do with the AGP driver or lack of. The issue appears to be the same in windows 7, and don't expect any solution as the chips are just too old now to be bothering with.

Well I'm just hoping that 7's better memory management (both system and GPU) results in more streamlined usage of my quad core and it's cache - not that it's slow on vista but havign seen how much better 7 is on the netbook compared to XP.... :D
