Sporty daily driver for £5K

Why do people ever ever recommend RX8's? They are rubbish cars in virtually every way a car can be rubbish!

by "every way" you must purely mean MPG and straight line performance...? Although RX8s have dropped a fair bit in price I would be surprised to see anything worth buying at this price range.

Clio 172 isn't a bad idea although 20k miles would do my head in, was fairly noisy on the motorway (wind noise) and had plenty of rattles and loose trim (fan in the interior light gets noisy and ashtrays are prone pulling out in your hand when you remove anything from the lighter socket).

How about Seat Leon Cupra or a Focus ST170 seeing as he is after somthing Golf sized?

the corolla t sport can be had for this money but it is a high rev'er not suited to 20k a year i dont think...

maybe get a golf V5? or something turbo imo for comfort...

Focus ST170 is a red herring too...

I mean in terms of long term longevity, economy, drivability (hate rotaries), dodgy stuff like the engine flooding and it burning oil, japtastic interior, questionable exterior, not fantastic performance

Great car!

This is a hell of a tough budget for a sporty hatchback no more than 5 years old. Much easier to do with larger cars, say BMW 3 series sized, which is quite a bit smaller than a Mondeo. It'd have to be older, but, it'll wear a hell of a lot better than a mass market hatch-back, so you wouldn't notice anyway.
