Post your bikes thread

That's a very nice way to accelerate the rockers wearing...

You are getting me worried with comments like that!

I was always advised to bring it up to normal temps once a month to prevent the belts from drying out and cracking up, plus it spins the oil around the gearbox. Just a gentle 1st/2nd gear potter around the car park once it's warm and then back in the garage.

Should I be doing anything else or avoiding what I am doing?

Cheers, Simon.

Not my bike but my girlfriends...

You to get it proper warm though...take it for a proper ride...the bike will love it and so will you.

Can't at the moment, no MOT, tax or insurance that's why I keep it locked up at work although I am tempted to get it legal again later this summer.

Last time I used it was Le mans 2006 :(

Cheers, Simon.

Yep, at that size and power output, yeah. But litre plus twins benefit from having a slipper clutch, aye?!!!. LOL.

Nice wee Monster 600 Dark there, nev93

far as im aware monsters don't have a slipper clutch. My dad races in the ducati desmo due championship on a 600SS they allow monsters aswell since there the same engine etc. not seen one slipper cluch when i can be botherd to go with him, silly 600 twins there so slow lol. wound it on doing about 40 in third no front wheel movement at all :(

That scorp isn't a race can as its got a baffle in and its designed for a scooter as the inlet is too small to get it onto a motorbike. I used to have one which I bought as it was lighter than the stock exhaust and also it was stanless steel so didn't rust like the standard mild steel one.

Photo of my old runner (aka the jogger) with a Zorstec Exhaust on.

That photo above makes me chuckle as the lock is round the exhaust, which can be removed in about 30 seconds by removing 1 bolt. Put the chain through the wheel otherwise it will get nicked.

rofl 4 stroke runner with the dreaded purple scorpion, if i was a copper i would pull you up for having that and being un-cool. also who would want to steal such a horrid looking thing.

As mentioned by Busa, it needs to be warmed up properly with a ride, not just warmed up sat still. Replacing the belt is very very cheap in comparison to the rockers (which are reknown for having the chrome flake off anyway). The belt should be replaced every 2 years regardless of mileage anyway if you read the service manual! I believe the rockers were in the region of £90 each (for just the parts only, not including labour to fit them) and there are 8 of them (one per valve).

Yea I think on track I would definitely want a slipper clutch on a big twin, hell on my old SV it could be doing bugger all revs click down and still feel like the back wheel was locking up :D

Wow, blast from the past there with the old post. Its not a scorpion, its a Zorstec as it says in big writing on the side of it. Its heat treated titanium and was not that loud so never drew much attention. The exhausts rust so quickly on 4stroke runners that some kind of aftermarket exhaust is needed.

This is what the bike looked like when I bought it and the exhaust was knackered.
