Will You Buy Windows 7???

For all we know, it could just give you a choice between 5 different browsers during the installation.

Well, I would imagine not as they explicitly state on their website 'you will need to have a browser such as Internet Explorer 8 or a browser from another software manufacturer saved to a CD/DVD or external storage device before starting.'

Really? Oh well. Explorer has built in FTP doesn't it? There's always ways :p

Why is it silly though? why should any O/S have media players and internet browsers pre-installed?

I see the argument that if people want to change from the default they can do...hhmmmm kind of a double edge sword isnt it?

I also install firefox and kmplayer first on any windows install I do. I suppose grandma oxy would find it difficult to workout how to install another browser. hmmmm...

The point is, that if the OS doesn't come with a browser, how can you download the browser of your choice? It's an extra annoyance.

not bothered by the lack of ie or mplayer. will download if i need them but £44 for a full retail os is sweeeeeeet

so who is gonna move to SSD when it comes out?

I find it silly how Mozilla and Opera are moaning about Windows choosing IE and WMP over any other browswer/media player. It is WINDOWS Internet Explorer and WINDOWS Media Player, with WINDOWS 7.

Or am i missing something here?

I am tempted by this idea as I will have enough after payday for one BUT I want to know which SSD is best to go for really as I need a fairly large one BUT needs to be fast too!

I guess I could get a smaller SSD and use my then redundant Vista C drive to install applications on .

Because the EU sees IE/WMP as separate products to the Windows OS. Therefore offering them bundled with the OS goes against competition laws.

An example could be that a company which builds say 50% of all new homes, fills those homes with all their own furniture. If people weren't bothered about the look of their furniture (and most aren't bothered about their browser) then people would never go and buy different furniture from companies who only make furniture.

Why should any OS have a calculator? Or a simple word processing software? Why should OS include anything but the OS itself? Because it's convenient and adds value to the product. I have no idea how EU came to the conclusion it did but it has to be in the top 10 of most idiotic decisions ever made. It's a first but in this case I'm 100% on Microsoft's side. Who ever thought an OS is not allowed to include something useful like a Media player or an Internet browser is a complete idiot and it really smells like a paid job.

Just pre-ordered Professional for under £90 - would have been happy with Home Premium for £45, but wasn't available anywhere just now. Figured I'd give Pro a go, seeing as it was a big saving anyway :D

Impulse buy f-t-w!
