Dont want E

no it's not 'too demanding' for us, but think of the average joe who buys this, goes to install it on his pc at home, then is screwed because he has no browser, and no second machine to even get a browser!

madness!

The average joe will buy a PC from the Purple brigade and IE will be already installed.

You don't have to install windows when you but a laptop or pre-manufactured desktop and if you are going selfbuild you should be able to get your hands on IE8 or firefox before you build. :p

What's teh big deal with not liking E? it lacks IE, big deal! just have IE setup on a USB stick or something and BAM! job done.

Nothing to fuss over at all especially for anyone on this kind of forum!

it's a pointless ruling that disadvantages all of us and has no benefit.

Apple aren't monopolising their dominant position ;)

Let me explain.

Say you worked for Apline, or Kenwood incar stereo manufacturers.

Say for agruements sake 90% of cars sold were FORDs.

Say for agruements sake FORD decided to throw in a free radio (FORD radio for free).

You'd be happy with that?

Ok yes, but you have to pay for a kenwood radio. Internet Browsers are freeware arent they so i can't see how Microsoft really benefit from shipping it with IE, its not really 'competition'. It should be about personal choice really.

Who's all of "us" ? I install Firefox off my software drive and am laughing like a maniac :p

It is a stupid ruling though mate. I know to most of us, its not really a problem at all. But i can imagine my mother for example, if she got a pc and it didn't come with a browser she would be completely stumped (once she worked out how to turn it on :D)

You seen the amount of adverts MS installs with their browser?

Install a fresh version of IE8 tell me what the default homepage is.

I am coming across as anti MS which I am not but I can understand why smaller browser makers brought the complaint.

90% of the public don't need or want this ruiling. Even most of us "hardcore" don't wont this ruiling.

Why are you lughing? it will still have all the guts of IE as otherwise other components of wndows wouldn't work. SO you have achieved nothing.

I'm laughing at the thought of you thinking that I'm laughing at people complaining about E :p I don't intend to achieve anything at all, merely stating the obvious that it isn't an issue having no default bundled IE. Heck you can get IE on disc at launch anyway can't you.

In all seriousness, I think it's a simple case of people complaining for the sake of complaining, I mean after all, there is very little to complain about in regards to Windows 7 (Unlike Vista's launch) so there /has/ to be something.

You can't seriously be telling me that installing Firefox/Opera/Safari or whatever from a USB stick is a pain in the butt so much that it's worth complaining about?

Not for people like us super geeks on here no, but what about your average Joe?

Complaining about the stupid European ruling. For me at home no it's not a problem. If I'm round my parents then yes it could be. No dvd writer and only one comp. So unless I carry a usb pen around with me I'm a little stuffed.
I'm certainly not complaining about the way windows7 has launched. Just Europe interfering in a way that is stupid and wont change anything.

The Average Joes might have an issue but the product materials do state that it does not come with IE and that they'd need a browser on some form of external media!

Like I said in another thread, this ruling is a gift and a curse. A gift because it opens Average Joe to using other browsers, something he or she would otherwise not have done and in the process of doing so having a nicer browsing experience altogether (extensions, more features than IE etc).

The curse is that some will complain (heh).

.

? they'll just go download IE. Nothing will change. If they didn't know or download an alternative before. they wont now. They now Ie and will stick with it.

Ie is a nice browser and has more than enough features for most people. Most people don't care or wont to now about extensions.

You see there is the issue, without IE on the OS from the start and no Browser install file on a USB whatever (remember this is Joe who does not do computers) then how are they supposed to download/install any browser... ;)
