Why do people bother "working out"?

'cos i dont get it. Surely sitting in your garden with a cold beer is better than being sweaty with other men lifting lumps of metal up and down for free like a criminal for hours?

Have you ever been down a gym Jez? Just purely a question. Its nice to get away from the world and workout. I can see your point also but for me I struggle to just sit around and relax, I have to be doing something.

I don't like the gym but do enjoy sports. I play tennis and bike ride regularly in which makes me feel good. There's something about physical exercise that helps me relax and clear my head.

Most importantly it means I can have a few more beers. :D haha

In all seriousness it used to be a way to stream aggression when I was younger therefore keeping me out of trouble! Now I just do it to keep in shape and enjoy the pump.

I don't drink. I started training because I needed/wanted to change my body shape. I still train because the feeling after a hard workout is almost unbeatable. It's the same for playing music and singing for me - when I'm not doing it I wish I was.

Some people do it cos their hobby might require it, like climbing. Or if you have to lift heavy stuff at work, like me.

I don't get it. I have a beer belly, and am now on the higher end of BMI "normal/healthy" range, and i don't care one little bit. Neither do my friends, neither do women, so who actually does?

Perhaps your girlfriend doesn't care, that doesn't mean we all find fat men attractive. A beer belly on a man is a major turn off to me, it's much nicer to look at someone who actually cares about their appearance.

Last year end of uni year I racked up a lot of weight and by getting rid of a lot of body fat it did the following for me:

Sorted out my diet which led to clearing my skin condition - It was the most irritating form of skin discolouration and dermatitis/eczema. It's now vanished.
Can wear any clothes I like and look great in them
Confidence
Improved Strength
Aesthetically more pleasing
Feel a lot better
Energetic
Motivated to make the most of EVERYTHING.
Release tension and stress

I particularly enjoy challenging my body and seeing how easily it adapts and makes gains in doing so.

I actually did when i was about 16/17, i ended up feeling sick if i worked out too hard, actually was sick once after running for too long.

Not pleasant :/ I'll sit on my arse instead :D

I go to lose weight which is working. Also getting my stamina and strength up too which works too.

Good reason also seeing the fit birds in their sexah work out gear.

i like to feel strong and powerful that's why i go... also it allows me to eat more as i like my food but gain weight quick, so increase in mussel and cardio while im there gives me some slack to snack out. i also once got beaten in a arm wrestle in front of my misses and for some macho pride issue i hated it, could beat him with my eyes shut now :D

i also like to play sports and strength is a bit part of my game

For exercise I: -

Walk the dog & daughter
Swim

Both 400 times better than spending an hour having to breathe in other peoples farts.

Improved sex life and confidence.

From my single guy's view, a better body gets you a girl with a better body. Also when I wasn't single, I would feel really bad if I let myself go, I wouldn't want my girlfriend to put weight on, so I also wouldn't.

Girls do care, even if they say they don't.

I'm not fat and the belly isnt bad, its just "normal". I'm not talking about fat men, just normal ones with a healthy diet, active lifestyle, not not gym goers. My employment is fairly manual at times, i am pretty strong etc, im not a fat pizza eating farting couch potato :)

.

Also, as a man, why would you want to be puny? :p

It keeps me fit and looking in good shape which makes me feel better mentally aswell as physically

I don't have a strict regime ,I just do whatever I feel like doing and it feels good after a decent jog, bike ride, swim, etc

To be fair, I can understand 'working out', but what I can't understand is 'Bodybuilding'. Turning yourself into an Arnie wannabe with Arms as big as normal peoples waists and bulging veins. It's disgusting.

i can't really see any negative reasons to it...

healthier
stronger
look better
feel better
more confident
the endorphines ;)
get away from everything else
more attractive generally
helps with personal focus/motivation
sense of achievement
personal goals

etc etc

why not work out tbh...

I am talking about people who actually go to the gym to "tone up" and "body build", before going they were normal people, perfectly healthy (to an extent which meant that they were able to live their life without hindrance etc).

Apprently a human body needs regular exercise to function properly. Some people are aware of this but are stuck in a office all day so three visits to the gym (or similar sessions i.e cycling, jogging etc) go along way to improving health and giving somebody a more energized feeling! :)

As with any activity some people take it to the extreme and become a bit obsessed!

TBH i more mean that.

Vixen - what is your take on bodybuilding? Every woman i have ever known (inc my o/h) hates the look of huge (lul) men.
