Hi,
I was looking at the pre-order offers on a few sites but neither mention anything about 32 or 64 bit? I would only buy 64 bit now, are these offers 32 bit only or does the retail box contain 32 and 64 bit versions? or should I just wait unless release day and get 64-bit OEM which will probably be reasonable value anway

32 or 63bit Windows 7 which one

Hi all,
I have a E6600 cpu and two 4870 crossfire would i find a better gain if i go for the 64bit version of Windows 7 ??

Are you all looking forward to Windows 7, I am or should i not be!!!

Thanks for any help

always 64bit for 99.9% of people.

Unless you have some odd app that is compiled in 16bit, but you would no if you had.
Or you have a very old comp with no 64bit cpu.

You get both discs in the retail edition. I'm bored of 64 bit and can't see the point as I've only got 4GB RAM so I'm going back to 32 bit

what the 4GB limit includes gfx card and other system ram. OS if you have 4GB of ddr ram you wont see all of it.

64 bit is also faster, more stable and has added security as well as a hole host of other underlying parts,

emm that was a quick response from you :}

This will be for my games machine so with the E6600 that i belive is 64bit compatible should work well "nice" but what about the games will that see the benifit from 64bit.

Thanks again

Even if you still have 16-bit applications you can simply use XP mode (if you bought Pro) to run them. I really don't see why anybody would want to use W7 32-bit.

You probably won't be able to utilise that 4GB of RAM under 32-bit due to graphic card memory etc.

I don't see how you can get 'bored' of 64-bit

also can i use my pre order Windows 7 on my games machine and my laptop ??

Legally, no. You're only allowed Windows 7 installed on one computer at a time.

The only reason I can see is if someone with a pre-built PC or notebook wants to use 7 but doesn't have full driver support form the manufacturer for 64-bit versions. I'm getting 64-bit for my own PC, but I'll be putting 32-bit on my step-dad's XPS One for that reason.

what drivers can't you get. Pretty much all laptops are made with generic parts. So even if they don't have 64bit drivers on The XPS website. The are easily available and as such should still go 64bit
