Letter from police

WAAAAH I BROKE THE LAW AND THE NASTY POLICE FINED ME.

Grow up, you broke the law, take the punishment instead of blaming everyone else.

NO - 4 mph over 30 is no where near the same as 4mph over 50, 60, 70 etc.

You're right. It's worse. You were 13% over the speed limit. That's the same as doing 80 in a 70mph zone :p

Anyway, no sympathy. It is common knowledge there is normally a 10% tolerance and you were over that. Plus every 1mph over 30mph increases the chance that a child will be killed if you hit them.

Plus your stopping distance is 75ft at 30mph. Already at 34mph it has increased to 92ft. That 17ft can be the difference between hitting somebody or not.

How outrageous that you got caught breaking the law... police doing their jobs eh? you will be telling me firefighters dragged you out of a burning building next, where will the madness of emergency services fulfilling their roles end?

You'll most likely get offered the chance to go on a speed awareness course for £60 and not get the points. I got offered this chance in Nov 2006 when I got done for 36mph in a 30 zone by a mobile van in Leicester. Though apparently it does depend on which constabulary the offence took place in, most give you a chance to do a speed awareness course if your between 0-4mph over the 10% of the speed limit.

2hrs of powerpoint slides and group discussions on speeding, wasnt too bad.

I thought you were allowed 10% plus 1 or 2 mph?

Unfortunatley the line has to be drawn somewhere. Don't see why they don't just make the speed limit 25, then everybody would drive at 30mph!

some people are just too self righteous. I guarantee that all those who have jumped on their high horse have gone over the speed limit if they drive. Simple fact.

Most of us weren't stupid enough to get caught though. If we do, we don't throw a tantrum like a toddler about it.

Personally, I want to see more enforcement of 30mph zones. They are usually there for a reason and it's not hard to drive within the limit if you have half a brain.
It's the 60mph and 70mph fining on clear roads that annoys me.

So what pwned you? Fixed camera, mobile? Maybe a rozzer hiding in the bushes with a laser?

^ Lol at that picture. Do you know the story or is it just a random pic you found?

I totally agree, but it's the reaction having been caught that's at question here, not the fact that people speed in the first place.

Get over it and pay up. Nobody likes paying taxes which is essentially what this is, but it's a tax on the stupid and therefore totally avoidable.

But and this is the big point, they don't whinge about it if they do get caught - sure it's slightly unfortunate for you that it is a 'mere' four miles over the limit but it's over the limit and it's a strict liability offence.

Saying "well other people do it to" isn't a mitigation for it, what other people do doesn't matter here, you knew the limit and you didn't abide by it - many people don't but that isn't an excuse.

//edit and no, I'm not claiming to be perfect or to have always driven well.

can we close this thread now please? wwwaaaaaaayyy too many perfect people having a pop.

cheers

And now you want the thread closed because you didn't get a response along the lines you hoped for?

You had my sympathy up until the gay copper comment. The limit was 30, doing anything over was at your OWN risk and you need to accept responsibility for it, not cry like a baby. I'm no saint myself, but if I get caught i'd take responsibility and be mad at myself for getting caught.
