Is 720p ok for waching sky HD

Yeah it'll be fine. Sky HD is 1080i native anyway (not 1080p) - the HD box also has a 720p option. To be honest I can't really tell any difference with mine set to 1080i or 720p.

Our HD channels are broadcast in various degree's of HD anyway, so there's no worry

I.e some channels are not "true" HD quality

1080i is the highest quality they do. So none are 1080p. TBH I've seen very little difference between that and normal channels.

Where blu-ray is undoubtedly so much better. Very disappointed with sky hd.

I'm pretty sure there have been some football matches in 1080p.

Filmed yes, output no. The box is only capable of 1080i.

However, the sports channels do have high bitrates so it will look better than the other HD channels, and thus require more room to record :)

Put it this way, I work for sky, and could get HD for free, as with everything else they do, but decided the £30 one off charge to get it installed wasn't worth it

I love HD stuff, be it TV's or game consoles and DVD's

HD TV (sky/virgin etc) just leaves me underwhelmed

3d tv should be interesting when we launch it in 2 years or so, the good thing is that the current HD box is ready for it, so no box upgrade needed

As already mentioned, you can't get Sky in full HD anyway (I'd assume due to bandwidth?).

Personally, I find that HD only makes a difference when you are watching a sport where a small ball moves quickly; tennis in HD, for example, is exceptional. Everything else is a bit meh.

Either Sky have downgraded the quality on non-HD channels through a Sky HD box or I'm one of the lucky few who can really see a difference. Flicking between SD and HD channels showing the same program HD always looks better. BBC HD seems to be the biggest difference particularly during Wimbledon. The Ashes is looking good in HD too. Also did a comparison of the same movie on HD vs DVD (not got Blu-Ray yet) and again a decent difference.

Move closer to the set, have an eyetest to check your prescription, then setup your tv properly ;)

The difference is huge, especially for sports like tennis, rugby, football etc. Eurosport HD is wonderful.

There is a huge difference when watching SD against HD cahnnels on my 92" screen going through my optoma HD700 PJ

Will I see any difference going from a 3 year 28 inch flat screen with a 10 year old pace sky box to 32 inch samsung 720p flat screen sky + HD box???

To be fair I'd assume that it depends on how big your TV is. This is running on a 32" TV, so the difference is obviously less noticeable than on a 50" set. The closer to the TV you get, clearly the greater a difference I see, but watching football from back on the couch on that size a screen there's not a huge difference.

I can tell a *slight* difference from 1080i to 720p on my Sky box, and my PS3. It's certainly not the kind of thing that bothers me though.

I just leave my Sky box and PS3 on 1080i, I don't get any picture problems at all. Friend of mine swears by progressive scan though, his PS3 is set to 720p.
