Hi, my vista 64 has been running great for the last while but it seems to have slowed down a lot! Im guessing spyware but i have run malaware bytes, avg, antivir, spybot and done a hijack this and it seems all clear. But sometimes it really bogs down. When i tried to open firefox it took 2 minutes. Cpu is always around 95-98 in system idle. Any ideas as to whats going on?

im running vista 64,
phenom2 940
5 gig ram

thx in advance.

Also, does anyone know a program whicjh i can use to monitor whats using up my bandwidth, so if someone is trying to download etc from my comp i can see.

That it might, but it's so unbelievably unnecessary, and WILL be draining resources.

So what would u reccomend i uninstall, i just wouldnt have thought that with a phenom2940 plus buckets of ram it would make any difference. And as far as task manager is concerned, there doesnt seem to be any drain.

i agree that xp is nicer but ive just had a lot less problems since going to vista.

I just use Avira with my Vista x64 been solid and fast,as to XP comment well XP is far from perfect too.

Not had one problem since installing Vista 64 2 years ago and have also been running it with NOD32 from day one and had no problems with that either so I just renewed my subsciption to that for a third year.

Edit: Have put my order in for Windows 7, If it is basically an improved version of Vista then I shall be happy.

Turn the Spybot TeaTimer feature off. That can randomly slow things down.

Only use one AV at once, since they can potentially conflict.

Is it just Firefox that loads slowly? There's a bug in Firefox 3.5 that can sometimes cause really slow loading. Updating to 3.5.1 fixes it.

XP 64bit all the way. Hate Vista with a passion.

The OP has Vista and wants to fix it. There's no evidence the OS is at fault, so you recommend buying an 8-year-old OS with woeful driver support. Awesome. Thanks.

there is no need for more than 1 AV program being installed. in fact 1 may be working against the other. its certainly a waste of resources either way.

Install a clean copy of Windows and this time don't clog it up with unnecessary programs, services and processes. Only install what you need and prune with MSConfig or other utilities.

Yup, stick to Avira OR AVG and disable teatimer. Download Winpatrol and switch off crap like jusched.exe etc.

Then download IniFox which contains 2 files and extract the archive in the Firefox profile folder. The Firefox profile folder is in the following location:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[randomcharacters.default]

Then close Firefox and run the IniFox.bat file. When you start Firefox again you should notice that the browser starts quicker. You can also check the .sqlite file size before and after running IniFox, and you will see a noticeable difference.

;)

Hi, thanks for all the replies.

I have deleted avg and cut a few tasks alo downloaded winpatrol. But its not only firefox that gets the problem, the whole system seems to slow down.

Something else i find very suspicious is when playing online games my ping sits at 70-200 and next thing i know im up at 2k-5k. this is why i thought i had some kind of spyware.

With all that **** on there at once i'm not surprised you're having problems unfortunately. You'll waste more time trying to fix the problem than a simple backup and reinstall will take, and you'll never get as good results. Just reinstall and load on ONE A/V (recommend nod32 or kaspersky) and just install and run the adware removal programs when needed. I would stick with malwarebytes and spybot, but don't use teatimer or any of that, just the core.

As long as you're sensible you shouldn't have a problem.

Here we go its hate VISTA TIME AGAIN; I’m running Vistax64 still on original install Aug 08 no problems at all. Tea Timer enabled never had any prob’s with it, will be using Win 7 on my next build don’t forget Win 7 is based on Vista so can’t be that bad.
