The Unofficial Fallout 3 Thread

bumpage - here you go, starting with the Broken Steel update (level cap at 30), looking at a September release :)

edit: not sure if it'll be a simultaneous US / UK / rest of world release though.

I bet I'm the only person here who hates this game. Picked it up a few months ago and realised I hated it after about an hour. Completed all my other games and started getting trophies on this. Only good part about playing this is I can watch movies and TV shows whilst I play, helps remove the boredom.

Gone through it once getting all but 2 trophies, going through again for Data Miner and Weaponsmith. This game is complex as hell even with a 450 page guide telling you how to do things and where things are. All 4 seasons of Prison Break + all 5 seasons of Lost and I still haven't gotten platinum :o

I got this the other day and have been really getting into it. Wasn't sure if it'd the sort of game for me at first, because I tend not to like RPGs because they're complicated, confusing, and so filled with stuff that it never feels like there's much quality or polish. Very impressed with Fallout 3 so far though, it gives you a lot of choice with regards to what you can do, say, where you can go, how you can do it, how your character is, without actually being overwhelming. It's managed to keep things fairly clear and simple, and little touches like the fact it displays your current quest objective when you continue your game just help to keep you on the right path and remind you what you're doing. I think I'm on about 17 hours so far and it doesn't even feel like I've made much of a dent, I've explored a comparatively tiny amount of the map, but then I have been mostly sticking to quests and not just going all over the place on my own accord.

Senture, if you're bored of the game, why keep playing it? Trophies are worth bugger-all if you're bored the whole time you're getting them, it's pointless. Traide it in for something else if you hate it so much.

To be honest TheVoice, you can play about 30 hours before doing any main quests, second time round, I went walkabout, left the vault, did a little around there, then went west, then north, the up and down sort of, well before entering the DC ruins. by that time, I was level 16... Was on level 20 before carrying on with the quest, with some serious firepower :)

Hmm, good idea, hadn't thought about it like that. Have noticed that the enemies I've been encountering in some areas (I'm at the Galaxy News Radio bit currently, just met up with Three Dog) have been getting tougher so perhaps some roaming around and levelling up would do me good.

Got so many weapons though, I keep getting over-encumbered! I just don't want to let go of any of them. :p

You only really need four good weapons, I find the Terrible Shotgun does well in buildings and close quarters, a sniper rifle for those sneaky headshots, a missile launcher and a rifle, can't remember the name, but it has a 5 bullet mag, but does a fair bit of damage. Grenades are useful.

To get more money though, collect Mines and grenades, you can easily get 30 or 40 on an outing before returning to a shop and sell 90% of them.

The alien blaster though, is excellent against super mutants... :D

To answer that one honestly, trophies are only there to show progress through a game and for bragging rights. We're quite limited with the games we have, I brought a few over with me when I moved here, most of them I don't like. I can't trade my UK games in as everywhere rejects them because the US PSN DLC will not work with UK games. I payed $50 for Fallout 3 a few months back, I expect I will get $8-10 roughly for it.

Ahhh I see, that's unfortunate. :( Must admit, I don't really keep track of trophies at all. In games like Wipeout and such they're kind of nice because as you say, they show progress through the game, but in something that's storyline-driven I find them a bit annoying. Sadly there's no way to turn off those notifications, although I think I've only had a few on Fallout so far anyway!

I carry several weapons as they tend to do better in certain situations. Lincoln's Repeater is awesome for anything a fair distance away. The Metal Blaster takes care of anything close range (especially as it doesn't cost a lot of Action Points so you can unload plenty of shots in VATS). The Dart Gun is ideal for crippling the likes of Deathclaws and Super Mutant Behemoths before they get close enough to do you any real damage. I generally carry a 10mm pistol for any time I run into Mole Rats and Radroaches so I don't waste ammo on them. I carry the Fat Man as firing nukes into Super Mutant faces never gets old, as well as carrying the Experimental M.I.R.V. as that just multiplies the nuke fun by 8 :D

My mate at work keeps going on me about this game soo! is it worth it? and how many points would i need to get the new updates for the game? or am i better off doing the game then getting the updates??

Ahh right , do you think that it will cost more than the original game? i've no idea how much extra the additions are seprate..

I think it's a brilliant game. Great atmosphere. I liked Oblivion, but much prefer the post nuclear holocaust setting in this game.

As mentioned, might be worth waiting for the editon coming out later, with all the DLC included. £32.99. Released in 103 days.

Well i've gone and got it anyway off an auction site. I wanted a new game anyway & this should keep me occupied for a while so that the addons (might) go down in price while im playing :)

I'm quite enjoying it, much more depth and atmosphere than I ever thought it would. I think I'm on something like 36 hours played and it still feels like I've not done that much, so either it's going to end abruptly soon or I've got a hell of a lot more to get out of it yet. Hopefully the latter!

Hi all,

i've been told to get brotherhood of steel before i fininsh the game? A if i finish it i can't carry on after without the brotherhood of steel?
