Why do people use Twitter?

I only use it to follow others and only really celebrities. For example, it is interesting to follow Lance Armstrong as he updates through the Tour de France and Ian Poulter during his nightmare at The Open.

It's good for that kind of stuff.

it's not communication though is it? it's rhetoric for the most part, no? the internet equivilent of "ohhh look at me"? :)*

*please note, i've never used twitter and this post could be entirely made of lies

B@

Only if you decide to use it like that.

I use it for chatting with mates about stuff, I'll post if I'm doing something interesting that I think someone might like to know about.

I don't tell people what I had for breakfast or when I'm going to the toilet, and I wouldn't follow people that did either.

Biggest reason for all the twitter haters, is that they think it's used for this massive cliche of telling people you've made a sandwhich, when it isn't.

twitter is subscription based, if all the updates you see are posted by idiots then no one's to blame but you. I follow quite a few comedians who try out one liners on there, I also follow a few companies and news sites for their latest news, and I use it to chat and share links/info with my friends

Never tried Twitter myself, tried Facebook as "everyone!" was on it, didn't like it, so figured i'm not cut out for these sites....some people seem to love them though.

seems to be for celebs mainly. Either that or for people who think we have a remote interest into what flavour jam they had on their toast this morning.

Myspace used to be alright but then it just got spammed to death, the worst part about facebook is being invited into every wierd concievable group.

It might be just me but whenever Facebook "suggests a friend" to add it's always someone i can't stand that i would never want to add or some randomer i don't even know.

How ironic...

Those saying twitter users have no life might like to consider their post count on internet forums, at least with twitter you're generally communicating with people you know.

The best way is this..are you ready..open the door..walk out..meet people(yes real ones) the best social networking ever.

Celebraties (not just Z-list), i mean working Hollywood actors today, read their news and updates from them directly than through their PR company.

For example, you can choose to follow Miley Cyrus, who tweet from her phone, about where she is going on tour, or even doing on her day off. People like Britney is not worth it as you can tell its a PR company who post on there.

One of the best feature is the twipic, people take pics as they tweet. For example, you can select to see tweets from people in your area, someone might say "Watching FatboySlim in X pub".....and you might have a few hours to kill and go to that. Or use it to share whats your mind, it's almost theraputic, letting it out kinda of way, no different than people posting threads on a forum.

Couldn't think of anything worse tbh, especially with Miley Cyrus, I don't care about celebrities and what they do, most comedians aren't funny and people like Stephen Fry irratate me. Also, does it really matter whether you hear the news 10 minutes before anyone else? Probably not.

I can appeciate why people might like it though, but for me, I cba.

I use it to allow people interested in the OcUK street fighter tournaments to track the progress and link to the fight videos.

I said For example.....

and its a subscription based service, you can't complain about it if you choose to follow it. And if you don't then there is nothing to complain about.

I don't use Twitter to follow celebs, I use it to follow colleagues and people of interest, primary for links and news. Think of it as a collaborative, tailored news feed, rather than a social networking site.

I like using Twitter - mainly use it for a small core group of friends, then I also have a few celebrities that are interesting (Stephen Fry, Adam Savage from Mythbusters, John Hodgeman) and a few news and film blogs to keep up with what's going on.

Think it's a nice little system!
