My new pen

I'll be very serious now - buying a pen for £125 is one of the most morally reprehensible actions a person can do. It's a disgusting by-product of a capitalist rush where the rich white man goes **** you to the rest of the world. If you have 5p in your pocket, you're in the top 10% rich list. £125 can feed an Ethiopian family for a year.

Gloating about this purchase just makes it far worse. If I laugh, I do so with contempt.

I think you've quoted me by accident? I'm against such things as horribly expensive watches and pens.

I was making a comment about how some one thinks it's trolling because I think that it's necessary to purchase such things.

That is some pretty strong words there pal. Now firstly, my apologies if any of my posts have come across as gloating, they're not meant to. I was only showing pictures and sharing my experience of a new purchase like many have on this forum.

With the apology over, let's look at the morally reprehensible bit shall we and see if there's any hipocrisy on your part? You don't waste your money on stupid **** apparently. Well correct me if I'm wrong, but you own an iPhone 3G 2nd Gen? Total cost of ownership in a year must be more than four times what I spent on that pen. For what? A phone - You could have got a cheaper model and fed a family in Ethopia for a lifetime for that. And last year you bought an ATi 4870 graphics card, again for more than the cost of my pen no doubt. At least my pen helps me at work to earn money (some of which I give to charity I might add). You chose not to feed that Ethiopian family for a year so that you could sit on your backside and play games. You're no better than me.

Well said.

I don't see why anyone cares how much he spent on it. Whether something is a lot of money to someone is relative to how much they earn - £100 is a huge amount to someone on minimum wage at the end of their overdraft, but not to someone in the 40% tax bracket with few monthly outgoings.

I'm sure we all have things we'd happily spend more money on that others may find impossible to justify, so how can we judge?

I had a Mont Blanc, hardly ever used it, but it was nice all the same. Then some **** stole it from my desk at work.
I didnt pay for it, my cousin who was head of finance at Deutsche gave it to me; apparently its customary to get one when you complete a big deal, and he had a drawer full of them.
Not sure I could stomach spending £125 on a pen when the only time I use one is to sign my name. Still looks very nice :)

Weird thread - not sure why the majority seems to be so obsessed with basic functionality to price ratios. It's a rather dull outlook on life. It's clearly a well made, luxury pen with excellent build quality and I'm sure it's a pleasure to write with. Nothing wrong with a bit of extravagance if it's within your budget. £125 isn't exactly the world's most substantial sum of money anyway.

Yes, it's £125 on a pen but what if a ballpoint doesn't project the right image in his position at work, what if £125 is pocket change to him, what if he writes for hours on end ?

Some would not want to pay £125 for a pen, but I can see why people would want to pay a lot more.

If you were a joiner, would you use a tool set from bidtv, or would you use decent tools to enable you to work faster, more comfortably and more professionally ?

No, you're not being serious, you're being an idiot.

I also laugh with contempt but not at the OP HAVING a NICE PEN but rather at this affected, pompous, supercilious drivel.

I don't see the problem - I write a lot at work, take notes in meetings, or on phone calls etc... Furthermore it's a lot easier to note things down on paper than have to type everything all the time on the computer.

I'd have spent £125 on a Mont Blanc or something a bit more worthy, and more likely a fountainpen, but ultimately it's an accessory isn't it - it's no different to spending money on fashion/style items.

They clothe you, it's essential. :p

And fashion = lady interest.

Brag about your £125 pen and they're likely to sign you up to the men in white coats.

I don't buy designer labels and haven't had any issues with getting girls - I don't need "cool" clothes to make up for the lack of anything else ;)

I can understand the necessity of a pen - without a pen I'd struggle at work - it's smart to have a nice looking pen. If I go to a meeting and pull out a Bic pen it doesn't really give the right image - I admit I wouldn't spend £125 on one now, but if money was no object I probably would.

I'm not sure you understand what women are really interested in.... £££

When spent on them, yes. :p

What on earth are you insinuating!?

I agree that a Bic pen may not give the right image, but what's wrong with a Parker? :p

lol @ this thread

The amount of controversy an expensive pen has caused, on a forum about expensive computer hardware where I'm sure a lot of us could get by on a much cheaper system, but don't because we enjoy the high specs, and the upgrading etc.

OP - I hope you enjoy your pen!

Actually, the exact same level of controversy was caused in a thread about someone who had bought one of those keyboards with customisable OLED keys.
