Gerrard...

They are defending the fact that nobody knows what happened and certain people are making assumptions.

If the bloke slapped Gerrard first and his mate lamped him, then Gerrard, then thats fair play imo.

Hm, I'd be surprised if it was the owner of the pub starting a fight with a gang of irate lads, but I'm open to surprises I guess ..

You're naive if you think that never happens.

Just don't think it happened this time, seemed like a fairly nice place, the guy didn't seem drunk or particularly aggressive in the bits of footage we saw, plus, as if anybody would touch Steven Gerrard, it's one thing to say no to him, but another to start on him and his gang of 10 friends. Why would he start a fight vs a gang in his own pub, doesn't make any sense

I couldn't say for certain from the footage I've seen but if he's found guilty by a court of law he must be punished exactly the same as any other member of the public would for that offence.
Both feet cut off.

Tummy you noob! Now we look silly! :(
:D

Well to be honest all this 'mates first' back-slapping for ol' Stevie will hold up in a court of law like paper walls to an elephant, and although I do think the court will decide independantly of social, sporting, or media considerations, we must all accept the inevitable and start providing recommendations for his sentencing... being taken backwards on a donkey through Goodison Park in a clown suit sounds fair right now about now, all pending him pleading guilty of course.

Baz have you got a link to there being two incidents ?

BBC have nothing about it that I can see ?

After Gerrard was pulled away, his friends then attacked the DJ. They have pleaded guilty to that. They were not involved in the initial incident.

Christ on a bike I go away from the interweb for a few hours and this is still rumbling on. In the grander scheme of things, He and the incident really are as insignificant as each other.

What is the current FA policy on England selection? I remember Alan Smith was dropped from the squad because he was arrested for some offence, even though nothing came of it. Unfortunately it wasn't until after the game when the case was dropped. There was probably never any case to answer to start with but the merest wiff of police involvement and he was dropped from the squad, not innocent till proven guilty, not allowed to make his case or anything. Does the same not apply nowadays, or to Gerrard in particular, since he has played in a number of England matches since the fight?

The FA's position will be case of fence sitting mixed with a delicate blend of having no comment, not seeing the incident topped with a large pinch of inconsistency. Alan Smith was dropped yet when Alan Shearer nearly kicked off Neil Lennons head off they folded like a cheap suit.

One thing I am unsure of, is the video on the beeb the actual footage that the jury saw or is this an edited version ?
