Asus GeForce GTX 295 Mars Edition

8 - 10 k's worth of gear then? :D

Good on 'em, where ever they are:) Wish I could sensibly afford a rig like that. That wouldn't actually need upgrading for years, several, at least.

This person obviously has a lot of money and no computer sense and has just brought the most expensive thing they can find.

For one, why not water cool such a ridiculous rig?
Two, why buy a 1KW Coolermaster PSU, when they aren't even that good
Three, why buy 2 raptors on top of FOUR Intel extreme SSDs - where is the strorage??

And to top it all, now is possibly one of the worst times to upgrade (to that extent), when DX11 is only 2 and a bit months away, on top of i9, new graphics cards from ATI and NVIDIA, which should be a major leep in technology because they are actually using brand new tech, especially NVIDIA, this time round it won't just be a remake of a previous card like NVIDIA usually do, it is going to use a whole new architecture. Not to mention SATA III in a couple on months.. why spend over 2k on SATA II SSDs, when in a few months they are going to be obsolete lol

And at the above ^, no it won't last several years, will be lucky if it lasts 1 year lol, with all this new tech coming out, SATA III etc. All of that stuff will be considered 'ancient' within no time at all. Remember SATA I to SATA II, SATA I was out of date in a matter of mintues, as will SATA II. Plus, DX11 is what DX10 SHOULD be, Mircosoft never 'finished' the DX10 architecture it was just a revamp on DX9 imo, this time round they have done DX10 properly but they have just called it DX11. So these super duper massively priced cards won't be able to play games properly that will be coming out next year and onwards, aka, for a super high end gaming computer, its a complete waste of space ;)

Like I said, lots of money, no sense in computers :p but hey, if you have that amount of money to just spend like that on computers, I'm sure in a whole 1 weeks time he will spend another 10k on a computer :p

Well, he planned on a build for a while so he doesn't wanna wait for the GTX 300 or the next gen stuff.... or so as I understood anyway. Don't worry, lots of people have been talking about the costs of his equipment already, he isn't phased at all.

Vortx, he doesn't want to water cool, as it wont fit inside the case.... also, he already has 2 1TB hard drives for storage (I told him about this whole storage thing anyway but he's serious on the raptors heh - might run out of SATA connections :p). Lastly, he decided against my recommendation on the PSU and MB so I kinda agree with you!

Funny thing was, he went with my jokingly recommendation of the Mars 295's hah. :D

I have that drive :D in my PC

Not sure what you meant by that? my description was off memory since I can't remember the exact model of everything he purchased.. there was other things besides the PC stuff.
I'll write it on my hand next time :p :D

He won't go for water cooling because it won't fit inside his case... when he is spending 10k or so on a comp... BUY A BIGGER CASE :p

Hes PLANNED this? **** me :p how could you PLAN to make such a stupid computer lmao even more ridiculous :p

How long did his 'plan' take? 5 minutes? lol I think your friend's plan consisted of 'wow thats expensive, I'll take it!' :p

Stop sticking your tongue out.

yea it's strange isn't it....... he must have loads of money, because if i did, i'd wait and get 2 Dx11 top end cards in SLI...........definitely

but i think, with DX11 so close, that it's highly unwise to get Mars now..... i'm surprised Mars was released with DX11 so close anyway

to spend 5 to 10 grand on a PC is totally stupid, but not if you won the lottery, because then it's peanuts isn't it.........imagine winning 4 million :eek:

and i definitely wouldn't buy a case ( if i had 10 grand), i'd go up the road to a metal basher, give him a grand and tell him to build a custom case....``here you are, make it like this``

my guess is :- he's bull****ting you

Would love to see this build, although you could try this.

Get 2x DLP Projectors for a polarised 3D setup similar to what disney use for there 3D shows, you would use a pair of projectors running IZ3d drivers to allow you to run real 3D.

1920x1080 3D Using 2 projectors

It should also be possible to get another 2 projectors so you can have 3D and a spanned wider screen, that should make a mini imax.

3840x1080 3D Using 4 projectors

That should put those cards to good use with all there memory onboard, as you can now sli with multi monitors i think that would be the best way to use them to the full, none of those tiny 30inch screens think 100inch+ projector screen. Plus you get to see it in real 3D, with real depth and on a big screen like that it should be epic.

Also why not get the G.Skill Falcon 256GB drives instead more space and a tiny bit slower in read/write

Get bigger case and water cool everything, overclock it to the max and post the benchmarks.

Sounds like a fun build good luck to you

You think that's expensive? What until they release the Jupiter version.

^^^^ Notice how much bigger Jupiter is compared to Mars? Relatively that's how much more expensive it's going to be

I'm holding out for the solar edition myself. Also, Ceres is a moon, is it not? Not a dwarf planet. Strangely, it is a popular site for theoretical colonisation.
