Are many of you planning on getting this game? I have pre-ordered it as it looks kind of fun (will tide me over until SW: The old republic and ST:Online). What are your thought and opinions on it? Any of you playing the beta?

I will more than likely get it. Love superhero games and used to Champions when I was younger. By the looks of the game it is City of Heroes 2.

Yup I'm going to grab it, have registered for the beta on the site too. Looks nice, and if they have learned from the monotony of CoH levelling it could be a good fun game :)

Bit gutted I wasn't selected for the BETA for this, been waiting for it for ages an signed up for it donkeys ago! I was hopeful this could be my stop-gap before SWTOR.

If I were in the beta, obviously I wouldn't be able to tell you because of the NDA. In which case, I also wouldn't be able to advise you to cancel your pre-order and see what the finished game is like because at the moment it's a bit rubbish.

But as I said, I couldn't tell you any of that.

Yeah, but the guy who made that thread used no capitals. So I created a better one :).

I have read a few posts like yours however :(. Maybe I will cancel it for now and see what the reviews are like!

But Bill Roper is there as design director, what could possibly go wrong? ;)

I was quite excited about this when it was first announced before Mr failgate joined. Now I'll be judging it (maybe unfairly) during the open beta in a couple of weeks. Although the whole similar server structure to Guild Wars but you have to pay a sub and there's some micro transactions available doesn't put it in a good light to start with now.

Well im sorry for not being a pretentious berk...

it was fun while i played it, however it was buggy, and servers were only on for limited periods of time on selected days (very vague) and mostly in canadian times or something.

Not that I downloaded the beta today and got in and tried it, but I heard its just, a joke of console-erific proportions. I heard, from a guy that only just got in, that unlike COH/COV, the fighting is, well, a joke, pathetically over the type cartoony animations which may aswell say "thwack" and "pow" as you do them. ok, its cartoony but so is COH and that didn't make the combat animations a complete and utter joke.

I also heard that at 1920x1200 its painful to read the text, which so far involves a really crappy story.

I was intending to play the beta to death, pre-order if it was remotely good and play it for as long as I played COH. Based on my friends initial impressions, after it crashed before he even hit level two, the style, combat, animation, movement, and general feel means he's tempted to not even try to reach that massive target of lvl 2. My friend will realistically try again, and see what the game expands into, but can't see how this could possibly be released as a fun game for real players. Make an MMO that can be played on a console = fail.

The thing of it is, the VERY WORST it should have been, was COH with better graphics, how they made a pretty great niche game dramatically worse I have no idea.

Hell the animations feel far worse to me even if its all done with better shading and textures(which I'm not convinced of yet).

Its like of Blizzard made WoW 2, at the very worst I'd expect a very similar game to where WOW 1 is now but with better graphics to appeal to newer users who don't want to start playing an "old" game.

its in beta its **** what a surprise....its a mmo ( i played CoX for 3 yrs so was looking forward to this)

Obviously things "could" change dramatically, but open beta is 2/3 weeks away, release in a month, its simply the style, its consolified to the max, for some reason though more options I think the character creation is significantly worse. for some reason the face's all look completely retarded and not really very human at all(if thats what you're going for that is).

Edit:- at this stage my friend, can create characters to his hearts content(which is none, as the creator isn't nearly as good as the old one IMHO, the characters simply looked better without pulling stupid frowns and without everything feeling so disproportioned, anyone know why the heads tend to stick WAY way out of the neck, and all look alien?) , but trying to access any server with any character = crash. yippee.

I have pre-ordered through Play, so should get access to the beta on Monday. Have also joined the only UK clan at the moment - The Few. If anyone are interested go to http://thefew.guildomatic.com/. They are a small but really friendly bunch.

Of course, the one I am really waiting for is Star Trek Online :)

I was somewhat candid in my earlier post because of the NDA. Honestly, now, I don't care. Do not buy this game. The combat is dreadful; the character creation has been ruined; the classes don't work; all the vaunted differences from CoX are not there, or are half-arsed.

I loved CoH, with all its faults, but this game just misses all the points.

Must stop reading this thread, the bad reviews are stomping all over my interest in the game. Saw the recent Star Trek screenshots and they look very good - of course they wouldn't release them to the press if they didn't, but still :)

It has been pretty negative, but I still think it will be a huge game. Anyway, it will get me ready for Star Trek Online, which all the previews so far are saying will be amazing. The latest PC Gamer preview really made me want to play it!
