New ATI cards out in less than month?

dx12h.jpg

lol joke

i will only buy dx 11 when my current gpus cannot display games how i want them to be...probably keep till Battlefield 3

ATI's upcoming DX11 capable GPU, the 40nm RV870 should be finalized by ATI in August according to sources. The actual launch of video cards containing the RV870 should happen in late Q3, followed by production around September and retail availability in October. It seems that ATI will be ahead of the green team in releasing its next-gen offerings, with the GT300 expected to surface in late Q4 this year. Maybe NVIDIA is biding its time to beat the red faction?

Seems most websites now saying the same thing, no later than October it seems.

Im abit worried by the term "low to mid-range cards" being released first, whole reason putting off this build, was because the new cards will be a lot better than current ones. But if the first cards released are "low to mid-range" ones, then how good are they?

For example is it safe to say the new cards will out perform the HD 4890? even if they are not ATI's top new cards? Because if it's not the case, then what is the point of releasing new next gen cards that are out performed by the current ones:confused:

It would be silly for a new gen card to be outperformed by an old gen card (top end of not) and since ATI already said in a recent article that we should be "pleasantly" surprised by the new release shortly due I think it will be a better performer and be cheaper perhaps.

Ok thanks, i got a little sad when i heard the low to mid-range comment:D
Im now more happy;)

I guess the price should be reasonable, if it is not the high end version of next gen cards first out. :)

the 4870 is mid end, the 4870x2 is high end.

It simply means they'll release a 5870 and a 5850 on launch and the X2 version will follow, probably a few weeks to a couple months later.

ATI to launch DirectX 11 GPUs in seven weeks
7/22/2009 by: Theo Valich - Get more from this author

For the past week and a half, we've been hearing rumors citing various dates for the launch of AMD's DirectX 11 graphics cards… ranging from GDC in China to newly invented delays that would push the launch window in to November.

However, all of these rumors are false, given that AMD has firmed its "Cinema 3.0/DirectX 11" launch. As tradition goes, the North American launch will happen in seven weeks in San Francisco on a very special place indeed - but we're not at liberty to say where the event will take place. All we can say is that it will be someplace that neither Intel nor nVidia would even remember.

ATI will catapult not one, but rather a complete DirectX 11 line-up into the orbit, ranging from $50 to the high end parts in their respective three-figure pricing brackets. Just like the Radeon 4000 series, consisting out of 4400, 4500, 4600, 4700 and 4800 parts, the new Radeon series will consist out of entry-level [Hemlock], mainstream [Cedar, Redwood], performance [Juniper] and high-end part [Cypress]. When it comes to codenames, you'll notice that all of these parts have codenames from plants, with some belonging into the same family [Cedar, Juniper, Redwood] Note that not all of these parts will be launched on the same day. Some parts might have to wait until Holiday season to get them in OEM-level numbers, but all in all - this is the strongest line-up ATI had in years. We might even dare to say strongest line-up ever from any GPU manufacturer.

According to information we have at hand, initial rumors about the names and specs proved true - these parts bring DirectX 11 compliancy from top to the bottom, and if you want to play upcoming DirectX 11 games [so far, there are six confirmed DX11 titles launching this year] in a budget less than $500, you have no other choice but to go ATI.

Sounds great! 5870X2s out soon hopefully :)

Is no one else worried by pricing.:( What are we talking for the High End card called "Cypress"....? £300+ ?

Performance card "Juniper" will that be around the price of current HD 4890 ?

Mainstream is no good to gamers so not worried about the price on them.

Slightly worried the prices will be very high, god only knows what Nvidia will charge:eek:

P.S these pictures where also on the link with the article, they totally confuse me and don't see the point but here they are.
