The biggest poker game of the year

Up £20 after two games of £5 buy in last night. Lost miserably the first game but dominated the second... got very very lucky being big blind with a 4-6 off suit and ending up with a straight flush. Would've folded if it weren't for the blinds.

Not strictley true;

With the micro stakes which he was going on about, you do get a lot of fish. Like he said, middle pair, top pair with crap kicker etc, sticking it all in. You just have to have to wait for your spot with tehse types.

However, the higher stakes, once you get past the block of it costing you a lot extra money wise, you can open up your game and be more creative. The moves which you make will generally come across as more genuine, the high up the stakes you go.

Well in my experience any ways.

Ah yes, move up where they'll respect your raises. I guarantee you that if you can't beat idiots at low stakes who call all-ins with one pair type hands and other trash, you won't stand a chance at higher stakes against thinking players.

Remember that whilst you could say that as a thinking player it is difficult to out-think someone who isn't even thinking (these fish you talk of), I bet you a better thinking player (these higher stakes guy who you wish to get creative against) will just out-think you and take all your monies.

Although I agree with you to a point, it is very difficult to aviod the fish taking you out when in a higher stake game you would be safe from them.

For example, the other night I was taken out by the following:

Me: AA

Fairly high betting pre flop with a large raise from me.

Flop A 8 10

Other player makes quite a large raise.

I re-raise all in. He calls with JJ.

The turn was a K and the river was a Q.

I can list loads of other examples with 97 all in taking me out etc. Okay, these muppets eventually run out of luck and loose but not before they take out quite a few good players.

I find nowadays that I get top 10 consistantly in $20+ tourneys whereas the <$10 ones or ones with lots of cheap satellites can be too hit and miss.

I cannot for the life of me work out why you'd want to be safe from bad players. Why aren't you happy you went all in as a 95% favourite? Why would you want to play a game where players don't want to put all their money in bad?

yes, you may get sucked out on but as long as you get your money in good then in the long term you will come out a winner

Because in cheap/free entry games a lot of the players are these muppets so the odds of you surviving all of them without one of them taking you out is very slim.

So my experience is that I quite often fail to make the bubble in these low value games as I taken out by some idiot call along the way but will consistantly make the bubble in the higher value games where the muppets won't stump up the £20+ entrance fee.

Don't get me wrong, I love it when I see what the bad player has sometimes, it's just that they get lucky too often and take you out. If you can run with the odds and get through the early rounds then you are safe from the muppets plus have a nice healthy pot and then play properly. A lot of the early rounds in the cheap/cheap satellite entrance tournies turn into too much of a bingo game for my liking.

If you take the view to fold your hands if soembody else is allin including AA with an A on the flop, then you will ride through the early rounds but with insufficient chips to play with the high blinds later so no result that way either.
