MP's want £25 a day for food?

Meaning everytime they come to london or if their main home isnt in london but their 2nd home is they can just rack it up.
I should imagine those MPs who opt to present expenses claims stating they were away from their main home on parliamentary business 365 days of the year will come under just a smidgen of scrutiny...

What's wrong with this?
the £9000 figure is media spinning rubbish it's

£25 when staying away from their designated main home on parliamentary business.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this. Even I get £25 if I'm staying away for work and I expect many other people get exactly the same, £25 a day seems to be the going rate for most people.

More knee jerk reaction by silly jealous people. Yes the system needs a reform and that some MPs where blatant fraud. But come on if you guys are going to complain. Pick on benefits they get which aren't reasonable.

chinatown, £5 or £6 for a special fried rice.

£90k a year, they should be able to pay for their own foods.

Bunch of overgrown fat greedy MPs.

I normally spent about £5 to £10 a day probably because I dont eat much.

What's wrong with this?

The fact that they are meant to serve the public and get paid according to this:
What is the annual salary of an MP?
£64,766 as of 1 April 2009

They can afford to buy their own lunch with that sallary. They are not a company but are meant to serve us, which they are not doing a good job at it as they are.

And by serving us they have to work away from home.

Salary has nothing to do with food/travel allowance and shouldn't be.
All your out crys are totally ridiculous.

Well as a consultant my food allowance breaks down to
£5 Breakie
£8 Lunch
£10 Dinner

Only allowed to claim when I am away from my normal place of work (home) because I may not have the facilities to prepare this meals myself e.g. no kitchen in hotel for me to use. I only normally claim lunch though as my contract the last year has been in London and I can travel home in the evening. I only claim when I have actually bought lunch, not if I have made some myself and taken in.

WTF... £25 a day is way to much

£25 a day for 5days a week - £125
£500 a month
£26,000 a year...

This is actually CORRECT. Knowing our MPs. Claim for more than they need. And then use the money to feed their families, sisters, brothers, parents and the man next door who smells funny.

And by serving us they have to work away from home.

They are doing a worthless job. So now they will be gettign marginally fatter and still doing a worthless job. They are meant to be our voice, all I see them doing is shouting at each other and doing nothing but getting more and more money. Yes, they are unlikely to claim the whole year worth of £25, but that is not the point. The point is, I see this as a reward for their complete incompetence.

I'm glad someone has finally said this! £20-£30 a night when away from home is perfectly normal and fair. I am allowed up to £22 a night.

And there incompetence is a totally separate argument and is totally worthless in assessing if a food allowance is reasonable.

Why? Food allowance is a benefit, you are meant to get benefits for doing a good job. They are not doing that, why are they getting any extra benefits?

a) who says they are not doing a good job. I would say some are doing a great job.
B) it is not a benefit like a bonus, it is to cover costs a worker incurs when working away from there home location.

but then you wont change your mind as you simply hate them.

Who gives a toss?

Seriously, at least the money is for food. I would be more concerned about 23rd mortgages, paying for pr0n, paying hawt mistresess etc

I think I probably read the article wrong and assumed it meant when they were at parliament, rather than elsewhere other than their main home or second home. I guess it happens.

A friend of mine is an IT consultant and gets a £20/day food allowance. Why should an MP not get comparable or even greater perks than an IT consultant?
