BMW Threads (Spam!) prompts query...

On all my 3 series', clutch and brake have metal arms and a rubber pedal. The accelerator is hinged from the floor and is plastic.

Note that the accelerator on my e36 (not sure about the rest - I'd imagine the same applies) is one use only - so if it is removed for any reason, it must be replaced. Maybe this was the reason for it breaking in your mate's M5.

On an E46 the clutch is plastic, brake is metal and accelerator is a flybywire throttle anyway so obviously is...plastic and completely detachable to fit a sprint booster dongle!

Just drill/stick on nice pedal faces and forget about it!.

Only later e46s have fly by wire throttle, my 328ci doesn't. I actually prefer the cable feel to be honest, you really notice moving to and from the different ones.

I like flybywire :D I like the fact that it needs the same pressure at any level to use unlike on the prefacelift one there may be "patchy" areas of its travel requiring a bit more foot :D

I seem to be able to feel a bit of latency with the fly by wire but maybe it's due to the lightness of the pedal.

My opinion is correct though as I own both types and am not biased like you. ;) :D

Yet another reason to get a merc, better pedals :p

Mercedes realised years back they would never make a good manual so reduced the clutch pedal in size and called it a foot brake.

Whats the deal with the far left pedal, handbrake?

(Edit i take it this is the S-Class, if not then that clutch pedal is a little close to the side!)

Its the parking brake (i assume only there for legalisation purposes only, still to this day unsure why you need a parking brake), why the confusion over basic pedal layouts

Pfff all this talk of plastic or metal pedals, I care not, I have electrically adjustable pedals :D ...I'm not even sure the S class has those?

My parking break is electronic too, although there is no pedal, it's applied with a switch just behind the gear selector, and it disengages automatically as soon as you move the gear selector from Park, indeed it will also apply it's self automatically if you turn the engine off and remove the key from the ignition, although you can 'force' it off with a certain sequence of holding the switch when removing the key or something like that.

Basically you can drive my car without ever touching the lights, wipers, parking/hand brake and never having to change gear :p

Not even the W221 has that, what on earth? :D

Whats it actually for? I'd expect adjustable pedals in a car without adjustable seats, but not both. Do they work with the driver profile system with everything else?
