Logitech g25 vs Formula Force Ex

Edit,
as for games(sim), then its gorra be rfactor with the "F1RFT 2008 v3.1" + "F1RL 2009 v2" mods, thats if you like ya F1 of coarse

Might have seen you around on Euroracers and Hagens servers then, those are pretty much the only 2 mods I play nowadays... (F1RL2009)

A couple of things about the G25 and specifically GRID.

1) The clutch is not supported in any way whatsoever (although I still pretend it is and press it when shifting!!)
2) 'Neutral' on the H-box is not a button. 'So?' I hear you say -- well this has the ramification that if you are in a gear then slip the car in neutral -- the game will presume you are still in that gear, not in neutral - until you select another gear. If you drive in real life, this feels a little wierd. If not, you probably won't notice.
3) The game will register a H-box gear change when the gear is entered into and at no other time. Therefore if you finish a race in 1st gear -- leave the car in gear -- and start a new race .. the car on-screen will remain in neutral (with the stick in 1st) until you take the car out of 1st, and then select a gear to enter into (probably 1st gear!!).

You may have to read (3) a few times as it's hard to explain!

Apart from that it rocks completely. Download the latest drivers. No you'll never use > 180 degrees. Oh, and don't stick your cute little fingers through the steering wheel just before you hit a bend, as the force feedback on default settings will twist them round very uncomfortably!

The shifter issues do only apply to grid though. When you put the shifter in to a gear it's like pushing a button down and keeping it held down. When you take it out of gear the 'button' is released. I have no idea what settings are available in grid but it might be possible to use something like Xpadder to trigger another button when shifter goes into neutral, and then bind that to neutral

Most sims should have a setting to enable the h-shift functionality properly.

I don't use the shifter anyway because I'm lazy, and prefer having just the wheel as I have to move it backward and forward every time.

In games where the clutch does work, how does it work? is it synchroed with the gearstick so that u cant actually change gear without using it?

Brit what u said makes sense, think i'll probably use the flappy paddles for grid in that case :D

Does the G25 work with the NFS series?

I tried LFS and GTR Evo (with keyboard admittedly and only for 10 mins each) but they looked a bit dated to me and i want something that looks nice and feels fun and not sure i got that from them :( Will try again at the wknd when i have the wheel ;) Trying rfactor tonight and looking forward to the NFS: Shift demo in August.

There is absolutely no force feedback within the H-box itself. So the hardware has no way of physically stopping you going from 6th to first gear, whilst travelling at 180mph, without using the clutch(! in real life you physically wouldn't be able to get the car in that gear at that speed)!)

The software however knows you've been a bad, bad boy for both lack of clutch and crazy gear choice. So then it's up to the programmer of each game how to punish you. Some games will blow your gearbox in-game (so car rolls to a stop, smoking heavily). Some games will play a .wav of an awful 'crunching' sound and reduce your speed to something crazy-low. Some games will play the 'crunch gears' sound and leave you in neutral even if the stick is sitting in the 1st gear position - kind of trying to silulate you not being able to get the car into that gear (my personal choice for most realistic option for programmer to choose).

rfactor blows your gearbox if you do something ultra crazy -- or plays 'grinding crunching' sounds a lot and damages your car and ruins speed if you're just a little naughty!!

Grid is an arcade game -- so you just get a slight crunch sound and the speedo just flies down to a speed half-reasonable for first gear. A real let-off -- but it's an arcade game!

Why does the Formula™ Force EX have 2yr warranty but the G25 only 1yr? I imagine the cheaper one would be far more likely to break  so surely it would make more sense (from a greedy company point of view) to put the longer warranty on the sturdier product?

Also i tried TH2G on FPS games and didnt like it (objects in the side screens too stretched), what's it like for racing? worth it or just use custom buttons to look left and right? I still have the screens but DSRed the TH2G...

Ain't got a clue. Could be 1000 reasons. Perhaps the companies have different levels of man-power in their 'fix the broken hardware' department (so the Force Ex people had 25 employees in the 'fix hardware' dept. just hanging around with nothing to do, when they could be fixing broken wheels .. so the manager just extends the warranty to make their employees nice and busy whilst offering something extra to the customer effectively from the company point of view 'for free').

Perhaps the companies have different levels of insurance against their product not working.

Perhaps the Force Ex realises the G25 is kicking it's a$$ and offering longer warranty is a quick and easy way to add a feather to their bow. Or the shareholders for Logitech at the AGM demanded no warranty older than 1 year was offered to the customer so they could take their dividends earlier, or reduce costs.

Could be 100 business reasons.

OCUK  it's just gone up to £135.99 inc VAT from 123.99... It was expensive enough already :(:( Now i have to pay an extra £12 cos i was waiting for people's opinions before buying *sigh*

Still a lot cheaper than anywhere else.

It's nearly £200 on a lot on other online retailers.

Awesome service from OCUK, a short message in the pre-sales forum and Ace Modder kindly dropped the price to £123 for me to place my order :D Arrives tomorrow so here comes a fun wknd!

Many of us with a G25 would have paid well over £150 so I'd be well happy with £135!
£123 is just a sweet bonus!

G25 arrived today and i bought a copy of GRID - need to get home for wknd testing :D

If anyone would care to post their GRID settings it would be most appreciated.

Thanks again for everyone's input in this thread :)

I'm TELLING you to make sure you load up a sim like rfactor, iracing (iracings is incredible, silvertone/lime rock in the SR8, ace) or GTR/2.

You'll see why people will pay £200 for that wheel...

rfactor in the box with the wheel - sweet! Just installing now! I think i may have out-geeked myself with this tho - no girl must ever see this room

MATE. Download the latest logitech software and patch the game to the latest version before playing.

It will then work fine, then you can just adjust the ForceFeedback settings to suit. You only use 900degrees for drifting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKfI7PjcopQ&feature=channel_page

Like everybody else has said, Grid is arcady, so if you like to raz around corners at 100mph then this is for you. Dirt is another fave of mine made by the same devs as Grid-again pretty arcady. Now GTR2 on the nordschleife in the maserati Mc12 with a proper setup G25, that is epic

I would advise Live for Speed, GT Legends and pretty much what everyone else has said :)

Did anyone get the G25 working well with Dirt? Everytime I tired it just felt weird.
