Not sure if this belongs here but take a look at this, i had a phone call today from VM telling me i could have the netbook for free (because i have VIP package) and the only thing i would have to pay was £5 per month for the dongle..............you know the story some foreign person rings and they can barely understand you and you can barely uderstand them so if the offer is correct or not im not too sure.

Are these any good ?

well you'd tie yourself in for 24months from what i can see. depends if you're happy to stay with them and if you fancy a netbook.

didn't know they were offering existing customers these.

The lady who rang me didnt mention anything about being tied into a 24month conract only that the netbook was free and i would have to pay £5 per month as i was on a VIP Package. Well i opted for another call back on this from them so i will just have to wait and see. If indeed i only have to pay a fiver a month then its looking like a good deal to me.

I've heard of some people buying them outright for just £50

How and where ?

Its a terrible notebook, 1GB Ram in vista is lol onboard gfx with only 1GB of Ram to share with it.

The whole thing will just lag. Not surprised people are buying it for £50 its trash.

They could have at least done 2GB Ram + any old standard dedicated gfx. At least then it would be a decent experience using it to browse net and just do some standard work on it like MS Office apps.

Its pretty standard spec for a netbook...

But I agree that vista + 1gig RAM is a bit of an odd mix - would be better off with XP on there - unfortunatly its hard to know how easy it is to upgrade the RAM on it - on mine I could just remove one screw and it cost me £13 to swap in a 2gig module.

To be honest it wouldnt be used for much more than probably surfing the net over wifi in the living room - it certainly wouldnt be stretched so it would be more than adequate for what i would use it for.

The dongle is part of the package, which ever package you decide to go for are 24month contracts.

I've got one on order for £50, minus any dongle as I'm a VIP customer. I don't mind being with VM for another 24 months as I've already been with them for over 7 years.

From what my mate has told me, it is a very good netbook and much improved when you put 2gig stick in and install Win7.

Why is it costing you £50, i thought they were free or is that only to new customers or customers upgrading their packages ? I have a VIP package too so as im an existing custmer and have no upgraging to do is it going to cost £50 to get the netbook????

got mine for an extra £15 a month on top of my normal package. So it works out to £360 over the time so pretty good really. Spec of netbook is worth about £250 and then you obviously get the mobile broadband too.

My netbook came on Saturday and I would have to say it isn't bad. Needs more memory but that is very easy to access and only £13 to add a 2gb module from ebay.

All in all quite pleased I took the plune :D

This VIP package, is it or including the Friends and Family package?

EDIT Sorry I assumed it was some sort of fancy package you have to be invited to be on rather than just standing for Very Impressive Package!

I ordered mine yesterday and it should be here today - after 45mins on the phone i finally got it sorted, ive even got the 3gb dongle for free. When i asked what the extra charges would be to my existing package right at the begining of the call i was told there would be none at all. Then right at the end she then says there will be a £15 pm charge for the dongle so i told her in that case i dont want it as you told me there would be no extra charges, as i pay about £100pm anyway for my cable service i should have it for free..........she then spoke to her supervisor and said ok you can have it for free. Ok so im now tied into a 24month contract but ive been with them for nearly 15yrs anyway and dont see any change, i now have free 3gb of mobile internet and a netbook - cant be bad.

The only problem i see is if the order will go through smoothly, 45mins was a long time to spend on the phone and when they ask for your email address and dont know how to spell "blueyonder" it becomes a bit worrying. Being asked for your bank account details too so they can set up a direct debit when your already an existing customer is worrying too along with your debit card details - i was assured tho that this was all part of the process and that no further direct debits would be set up and that no charges would be made to my card, somehow im not quite convinced but we shall see.

My red Netbook arrived this morning (even though I was told it would be delivered on the 31st July).

I paid £50 as I'm already on the XL TV & Phone and the XXL broadband. The Netbook is very nice, runs quite smooth and looks good in red. It also came with nifty Virgin Media/Intel pouch, which was an added bonus.

Overall I'm extremely pleased - £50 for a Netbook is a great deal and I don't mind being with VM for another 24 months as I've already been with them for over 7 years.

I've just ordered a 2gig stick of ram for when I put Win7 in. :)
