I am due some new boots on the rear of my car so que looking all over the place for prices/makes/reviews etc etc.

I came across these tyres and they seem to get half decent reviews. They have quite a mean looking tread on them almost racing tyre looking.

I wanted to know if people on here have got any points about these tyres that they would like to make.

I realise that the GSD3's are now discontinued and been replaced with the asymetric version. I am looking at some of these for the front in the coming months.

Just general pointers about the GSD3's appreciated!

Thanks!

Always had them on my 5 series, now have them on my clio too.

Depending on the price, I would always buy these.

Can't fault them on my Leon FR. I even tend to park with a full lock as I like seeing the funky tread pattern :o

As they will be for the rear its not really critical how long they will last as im sure as a free wheel they will last bloomin ages anyway!

I think my mind is getting more set.

Now, next.... etyres....anyone used these guys before? They come to your home or work address and fit them there and then, good idea or are they Kwik-Fit Mk.2?

I have GSD3's on my MX5 and they give me loads of grip. In fact they almost grip too much - I used to be able to have a little play with the back end on mini roundabouts etc, but now the rear won't shift unless I really push it.

They seem to be lasting well, (although in my experience the MX5 looks after tyres remarkably well considering it I drive it pretty hard), the only problem now is that when the fronts need changing I won't be able to get any more due to them being discontinued :(

I personally think they are excellent tyres. I chose them because every time there is an independant tyre test they ALWAYS, without exception, win, and they are also reasonably priced. Every car on the drive has a full set of them.

they were ok, but the vredestein ultrac sessantas i replaced them with seem far better IMO.

Was just about to ask a similar question as I need new tyres and the Vredesteins are on offer at Camskill at the moment making them £20 cheaper each wheel!

Can't fault them on my Leon FR. I even tend to park with a full lock as I like seeing the funky tread pattern :o

Hello to a fellow FR owner too! :D

I bought a full set after seeing the countless number of recommendations on this forum.

They've been on the car for about 12 months and 10,000 miles and I can't fault them at all. Brilliant in standing water and superb for both wet and dry grip. They still have a few mm of tread left on them too!

I think I might give the Vredesteins a try next though.

Well certainly seems they come highly recommended then!

I hear stories of them letting people down in the wet conditions.

My reason for wanting good rubber is really purely because of the ring in october. The rears need doing anyway as the side walls wil fail an MOT on my current tyres. Then my budget ones I got when purchasing the car will need to go as I dont fancy that journey and the laps on budgets!

Just want to know now if anyone has used etyres for tyre fitting.

They want £240 to supply and fit 2 of these tyres at 225/40/18.

They wont let you down in the wet - the main strength of the tyre is its excellent wet performance, so much so that other tyres can be better in the dry as a result of the tyres construction to offer good wet performance. A tyre built for wet performance won't offer the dry performance of dry focused tyre..

Wet or dry, they are the best tyre I have used on any car. Used them on a Leon Cupra and Volvo 850R.

Great tyre, had a set on the ST220.

I did a wet trackday in torrential rain at Bedford, they sliced through the standing water where as everyone else was spinning off the circuit.

Neil.

fantastic tyres, transformed the car from a tail happy, twitchy, snappy, almost scary car into.... Wow. (Pirelli to Goodyears)

Grips on everything, even big standing water. Wear rate is fine, but then its a small hatch. Not sure about heavier or faster cars.

can only echo what has been said really, though tread wear is quicker, but you'd expect that with the softer compound that the F1 gets :)

Probably the best tyres I've ever had on my car (Mk4 Golf). Unfortunately the fronts wore out in 7K miles.

I have ran F1 Asymmetric's for the last couple of years and the are very good, just make sure you get the newer Asymmetrics rather than the older GDS3s as the sidewalls are said to be a lot stiffer. I may try Pirellis next as the new compound p zeros beat the f1s to the top spot in the most recent tyre test I read.

Yep as above really, put a set (GSD3s) on my MX-5 after everyone here banging on about them ;) And they're superb. Amazing wet and dry grip, so much so that they probably give you too much confidence in the wet if anything :D

I've heard stories of them wearing quickly but a soft compound tyre on a heavy car will no doubt lead to this. The MX-5 isn't a heavy car so they're not wearing that quickly. Had them on for about 5k of (mostly) enthusiastic driving now and there's still a good 3/4 of the tread left.

Also I understand they're not ideal for some cars due to the 'soft' sidewalls. I'm not sure why this is an issue on some cars rather than others however! With the right tyre pressures they're nothing but direct and communicative on the 5
