Well, I think I've got all the connections right, but my computer won't start at all. (yes I have connected the ATX_12V and also the 2x12). When I switch the power on it makes a little noise and nothing happens.

here are the specs:

2 GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Phenom X4 9650 2.3GHZ
Gigabyte Radeon HD 4670 1GB DDR3
Mobo is GA-M61PME-S2P (pretty sure its compatible, no?)

500W power supply. shouldn't that be enough power to run this?

I hope I haven't screwed up the hardware during installation :S

Nothing at all. No light, no spin. Just like when there isn't any power running through it.

That little noise I was talking about comes from the power supply btw, if that helps.

as per edited post.. There's a new BIOS F3 which may support your CPU..

However, if you can't get into the BIOS then it's little use. You haven't done anything stupid like bolt the mobo straight on to the mobo case tray without risers have you? :p

If not, you will need to test your PSU.

http://www.huddysworld.co.uk/index....rking&catid=40:techie-talk-hardware&Itemid=72

The hotwire trick will quickly test if anything is coming from the PSU.

On the mobo's manual it says:

Support for Socket AM2+/ AM2 processors: AMD Phenom™ FX processor/ AMD Phenom™ X4 processor/ AMD Phenom™ X3 processor/ AMD Athlon™ X2 processor/ AMD Athlon™ processor/ AMD Sempron™ X2 processor/ AMD Sempron™ processor

but for some reason it doesn't include AMD Phenom X4 9650 in the supported list!!!!

I tried the PSU calculator and it suggest 213w so mine should be enough I guess.

I'm just wondering, shouldn't the PSU's fan work ANYWAY if I switch it on? I just want to make sure the PSU isn't faulty.

And just a question, how can I flash my mobo to the BIOS thing? I'm a total noob here. :(

I did the hot wire thing. The fan in PSU and the case fan both worked. Any ideas?

Just one thing, looking at my 24-pin connector, it misses one wire but so do all Antec PSU's I have worked with. Shouldn't be an issue, no?

I just hope the CPU and mobo are compatible

Just to update, I the system my other PSU (750W Antec) and didn't work again so it is definitely not a power supply problem.

dead mobo then?.

same mother board thats in me bro`s pc that the network had died on could it be bad batch of these?.

im sure some one else was asking about another fault on a giabyte board last night?.

Are you building this inside the case or outside the case for now? Something I always do with a new build is get all the components together outside of the case on a bit of cardboard and verify everything is working, then if it doesn't work I can pinpoint if it's a short or if I've caned something on the way into case :P

And like ogg said, bare essentials, start with the board and cpu out of the case, try power it up, if it works cut the power, add ram, try to power it up. Do this for all your hardware and this way you'll at least be able to pinpoint which part is causing it to die.

Removed graphic card, memory, hard drive and DVD. (so basically CPU sitting on the motherboard and that's it), turned it on and...still nothing! No light coming up, no fan spinning (not even the PSU's fan).

I have no idea what is wrong :(:(

Well I took out the motherboard with only the CPU on it. Used the Power Switch cable from the case and switched it on and hallelujah the CPU fan started spinning.

Where do you suggest I should go from now? How can I get it in the case without grounding the power through the case? Make small cardboard washers to put on top of the brass standoffs and screw the mobo on top of them?

Thanks very much btw :)
