Guys (and girls ;) ) can you please post what your ATi 4890 card has in the way of power connectors. I know one or two but was hoping for a fuller picture.

i.e. 2x6 pin or 1x6pin + 1x8 pin

In particular the Asus ATI Radeon HD 4890 TOP HERE. Although I rather suspect this has 1x6pin + 1x8 pin.

Reason being I am going to be returning the XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 XTX XXX Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card I bought Wednesday gone,as my PSU only supplies 2x6 pin and I would like to know which of the other versions has what, before I make the trek to OC on Monday.

Many thanks.

You asked this question before and I answered it before so here is a cut'n'paste...

That one is factory overclocked and as suspected it also features 6 + 8...

Most of the time it's only 4890 cards that come factory overclocked from the default 850Mhz GPU + 975Mhz (3900Mhz effective) that have the 8pin. All default speed 4890 cards will have 6 + 6.

The cards shown below are factory overclocked, hence the 6 + 8pin...

That is NOT a complete list of all the factory overclocked 4890 cards, only some of them.

I'm more than happy with my Vapor-X. It is cool and quiet and performs really well at 1680x1050. I've currently got mine stable at 965/1125 but the memory goes up to 1200 if I lower the core (and possibly beyond - only used Overdrive which limits you to 1200), and the core can go close to 1ghz if I lower the memory! In fact I have played Fallout 3 for many an hour at 985/1200 without a problem but if I try and run 3DMark06, my PC restarts.

I'll probably still tweak a little but it would be nice to have the ability to adjust the voltages.

If I had the option, I would probably now opt for the Toxic - presuming you could get hold of one in the UK at a similar price to the Vapor-X (to date I haven't seen one around for anything less than a £75 premium over the Vapor-X).

The Toxic has reference voltage controllers, allowing you to tweak away, and a slightly better cooling system. What it doesn't have is all solid capacitors and Black Diamond chokes of the Vapor-X that apparently "help to reduce operating temperature and increase efficiency by 25%".

how are you all finding the vapor x? worth the premium over the reference cooler or a better proposition than the asus twin fan?

I really like it. I'm not into overclocking really, I like mine factory overclocked.

It runs quiet and cool, which I like.

I would think this might be a better option than the Asus twin fan.

thanks for input. I hear the toxic runs very hot, I also can't find one for sensible money. They were limited production I think which explains the scarcity...,
