Hi

This is my first post in this part of the forums. My 360 has just got the Red Rings of Death again.

About a year ago the 360 started to overheat; my Dad decided he could fix it himself and took the top off; he couldn't fix it himself and we tried to send it off to Microsoft; but they sent it back saying that we had voided the warranty. We left the 360 for a few days and put it the other way up. And it started to work again.

About a month ago it got the Red Rings of Death and we sent it away to this company that put an X-Clamp thingy on it. We got it back and it all worked fine... Until now. A few days ago when we tried to start it up the red rings came up; we turned it on and off and it works again. This happened most of the time we started it up. But we started it up yesterday and the 3 red rings came up. We tried restarting it several times and it wouldn't go away. We then left it to cool overnight and most of today and it still doesn't work. We found out that the error code for it was 0020; which is "unknown, possibly overheating".

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on a fix??

Thanks

You could follow guides on the internet to reseat the heatsinks/X-Clamp fix again, but personally if it's already been fixed once I'd just sell it on eBay for £30-£50 as faulty/spares and put the money towards a brand new console.

Best suggestion. I was one of this forum's biggest supporters of repairing 360s yourself, however the fixes just don't last.

Sell it for spares and buy a latest spec Arcade to give yourself the best chance of it not failing again.

lol very nice Kreeeee :)

Like Memphis said, i was also a big fan of repairing them (search for a thread about baking them lol) but they really dont last. in the end I caved and just bought a new jasper Arcade for £99

Open it up, it's possible that when you sent it off to get repaired they took off the x-clamps and replaced them with screws and washers... If you you can try tightening/loosening the bolts and see if that helps.

My xbox red ringed, I tried the towel trick which worked for all of 5 minutes, then removed the xclamps and replaced them with bolts, it worked fine after that but the fans made so much noise that it was barely playable, tried some thermal paste on the heatsinks but after that it just started freezing up no matter what I did, so I'm going out today to buy a new one, will be nice to have a brand new warranty :)

I oven baked my launch 360, cured my RROD. Sadly in my fit of rage when the console first started to die (corrupt video etc) I thought that some light throwing it would help it RROD. Little did I know that I infact borked the DVD drive. No more RROD but voila unreadable disks!

Get your dad to buy you a new one as he was the one that took the top off rather then sending it back to be fixed for free :D
