VW Golf Mk6 GTD - opinions?

But I don't say a Q6600 is crappy class cpu but I guess its about the best in that crap class just coz I have a better one, plus ocuk is more a pc based forum than a motor forum and most ppl do have there pc spec in the sig on here even you do.

But this is Motors, and a lot of people that inhabit this section of the forum (including myself) don't really look in the hardware forums at all, probably as cars are far more interesting than GPU's.

You misunderstand. Nothing wrong with having specs in your sig. But just because you chose to have something in your sig doesn't mean you mention it in every post.

How? It is quite obviously opinion. What makes a great car is subjective and cannot therefore be a fact. Judgement on whether something is great or poor can only ever be opinion.

To someone who knows about cars, yes but said to someone who doesnt know much about cars (no reflection on the OP btw) it could easily be construed as fact. There are plenty of genuinely bad cars out there, that very few people would consider to be any good (although I do recall someone around here owning and liking a streetwise) but cars like the Golf, Focus etc really dont fit into that bracket but your post could have been interpreted that way

I'm not trying to launch a personal attack on you like some people here, I'm just trying to explain, in a slightly calmer manner than "snobby tw*t", why some people are getting wound up

I'm well aware why some people get wound up. I have a particular posting style - some people love it, some people hate it. I can't please everybody so I dont try to :) I did once ask the forum if I should be far less sarcastic and blunt and everyone told me to stop being so wet, so you now get what I think how I think it :p

Heh, well if you're happy with people's reactions then carry on! I quite enjoy winding up people that deserve it from time to time :)

I have to admit, on reading some of your posts I've got the impression that if its not a 530i then its no good, but its quite quickly clear thats not the case.

Anyway, its just a forum people, lets not take things too personally

Loose the sarcasm that you portray in most of your posts and you might make a few friends instead of enemies. you say you don't mention your BMW but I'm sorry you mention it in every post by the fact you have a picture of one and BMW530i sport in ur sig.

Quit banging on about your PC. GOD this is the MOTORS SECTION!

:p:D

Well no it just means its a class which is not one filled with particularly great cars.

I respectfully disagree with your ludicrous and incorrect opinion.

Whilst I appreciate the fact you blew 17 grand on a grey rental car means you need to convince yourself its awesome at every opportunity can you not do it in a less ridiculous way? Wet dreams about bmw? With comments like that are you sure its not your mums Golf?

Every opportunity? It seems that you are employing the same tactics as those that you accuse of making you out to be some unadulterated BMW pimp. Whilst I believe that my car is very comfortable and does the job I wanted it to do, I do not think my grey Golf is 'awesome' whatsoever. Nor have I mentioned it in this way, so I'm not sure how you managed to wangle that into your reply. Once again I believe that the GTD is a class leading car. Comfortable and pleasant to drive, it would be a good choice for the OP, even if he did have in the mix some 4 year old beat up 5 series such as your own.

I presume you mentioned my mum there as I had previously mentioned that your dad probably helped you out with your Beemer. That's nothing to be ashamed of and potentially one day you will be able to purchase your own car whilst it's still in warranty, don't worry about it.

Don't worry, when I bought my BMW years ago it was indeed still within BMW warranty (I even managed to get about 4 grand of work done under it), so I've already ticked that box. Thats the problem with assumption, isn't it? Much like assuming my parents paid for it

it would be a good choice for the OP

I take it you were too busy making up stories to notice that on two occasions I recommended he buy the Golf and already pointed out its probably the best car in its class?

Not at all. I was elaborating on what had already been said by commenting that the GTD would still be a good option even if a four / five year old beat up five series was thrown into the mix. Shame I had to re-type it for you to understand though :(.

is a golf GTD 6 grand better than an octavia vrs?

just seems a huge price difference for

Depends if you've got 6 grand or not. There will almost always be something that's better value for money in any purchase decision, especially with cars.

Most people on here could have bought a car that would have done the same job 90% as well for 50% of the expenditure.

Back in my parents' days they were five being driven down to the south of France in an original mini without any issues. Everything's relative.

Whats a beat up 5 Series then? You seemed to miss the fact it met your rather bizarre criteria for greatness of being in manufacturers warranty when purchased...

Yea but this is the same car, same engine, same interior etc etc 6 grand is significant difference

Is it the in thing to have a pop at Fox? If anyone else made the same comment, it would have passed largely unnoticed. It's getting boring now, grow up.

That is not my criteria for a great car. However, it's nice to have a car with a decent amount of warranty remaining if you can afford it, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Yes and it's called market segmentation.

Many times will you have paid two different prices for essentially the same product. For example, the leather option in the Golf is twice as much as in the Skoda, and the Skoda gets the RCD510 touch screen unit as standard whereas it's a £300 upgrade in the Golf. It's ludicrous, it's outrageous, it's not logical, but it's marketing / branding and I for one just won't drive a bloody Skoda (whilst I can afford not to).

As above, this says more about Fox than anyone else. Whilst he continues to be an arse I feel that people should be able to be an arse back to him. It's sweet that you're sticking up for him though.
