Worrying number of teenagers are swapping intimate or sexually explicit photos, called "sexts", on their mobiles, police say.

More here

What caught my eye was "Although it is legal to have sex at 16 under British law, it is illegal to take, hold or share "indecent" photos of anyone under 18". I wonder how many people are aware of this ?

I wonder what the BBC thinks is 'worrying' about it.

The more relevant point is that nobody here cares either way. Though there was that girl in the US who was done for distribution of child pornography through sending her friends naked pictures of herself.

*hand up

I have taken photo's of past girlfriends, all over 18, but have never sent them to anyone and have never been sent any.

Yeah, especially not the girl who killed herself after a year of bullying by people who her boyfriend shared her pics with.
Her family isn't bothered either. Nor should any parents be in the slightest interested.

all over 18

Mostly the police are worried about those under 18, as they are not only breaking the law, they are atan extremely vulnerable age and prone to bullying, depression and suicide.

I once took a picture of just my balls and sent it to a 17 year old friend because she kept telling me I had none.

That OK?

That's besides the point. I was referring specifically to the legal ramifications of sexting with regards to the laws on pornography, not any resultant bullying or unpredictable suicides.

How many cases of suicide have there been as a result of 'sexting' apart from the one you first mentioned?

We stole pictures of friends girlfriends and then send them around to everyoen we knew, it was just one of those things.

Think I misunderstood you then :) If you mean what I think you mean then I agree, the kids don't care about the legality of it. I know I wouldn't have at that age. I wouldn't even have thought about it.

I got sent a video of a girl* from my college who slept with someone with another guy so her boyfriend sent the video to everyone!

I must admit, the video was quite good and she wasn't too bad either

*Yes, she was over 18

Me and my friend were once sat at a Starbucks and had an incoming picture message. We accepted it to find a self-pic of a giant nob.

I couldn't stop laughing for ages - oh, the immaturity!
